The Discussion Thread: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=491461

The only rules are

  • Only shows on the list will be selected
  • Only the first season is required for the monthly viewing. If a show has multiple seasons
  • Each show on the generator has a minimum of 10 episodes per season, if not, we will watch S1&2
  • ALL spoilers must be tagged as such, as none of us have seen these shows before aka don't be a jerk
  • Any posts not following the spoiler rule as subject to Deletion

For the first month we're doing Fringe, and in this thread we will be talking about our viewing experiences with the show. You all are welcome to join, so we'll talk about what we like and/or dislike about the show we're watching.

So let's have us some Fringe!

What is Fringe?
FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham is assigned to the bureau's Fringe Division, in which she investigates unusual crimes and occurrences. Assisting Olivia in her investigations are once-institutionalized scientist Dr. Walter Bishop, his jack-of-all-trades son, Peter, and FBI Junior Agent Astrid Farnsworth. As the team investigates cases of science gone awry, they discover connections to their own past and to a parallel universe. As the team solves cases in these interconnected worlds, new discoveries and complications continue to arise.

I couldn't sleep this morning, so I watched the first two episodes. I had already seen them before, but it's nice watching the set up again while knowing what's coming. I really like how they're setting things up, and I'm going to get into the episodes that I haven't seen now. I hope that Abrams gives up the damn lens flares though. I really don't get why he does that in everything he does.

I didn't notice any lense flares when I watched it. But I only never notice them.

I got to the first episode today, and I got a kick out of it.

I wonder though if the images shown between commercial breaks have any plot relevance though.

Peter and Walter though, I can't wait to see more of their interactions going forward.

Walter's odd, and not necessarily in the good way. So that's gonna cause plenty of tension in the future.

I think those images do have some kind of relevance. I'm only guessing here, but I think it's something to do with The Pattern. I don't think that it's just something random for the sake of being weird.

As for Walter, John Noble is awesome. He plays in Sleepy Hollow, and he is pretty damn good in that too. I'm betting that he's one of the better parts of Fringe as we watch it all to the end of the season.

So its like book club?

I agree, I think Peter or Walter are going to be my favorite at the end of the season.

I wonder how deep Massive Dynamic's involvement in all the weird things will be, since a leaf similar to the pre-commercials images was on a door. I also wonder about William Belle and how much he'll get involved personally.

And yea Kaleb, sorta like book club.

yeah pretty much. we've compiled a list of shows we've all never seen but have wanted to, and we're having discussions in here about it as we go. a different show each month will be randomly chosen, so anyone can jump on at any time.

i just finished the pilot episode. thoughts in spoilers

Dunham is a cool protagonist. She's clearly capable of her job and I liked how she had to prove that in this episode. I never was particularly as fond of John as she was, but I know he was on Human Target so I recognized him.
Peter Bishop was my favorite character so far. He's pretty witty, and seems to be extremely smart and possibly more complex than he appears.
Walter is odd... but i guess being in a nuthouse for nearly 20 years can do that to a man. i kinda like how erratic his lucidity is, it makes him more interesting right now.

as for Bell, not sure what to expect, and like yall, i wondered if the images at breaks will mean anything in the future. i saw the leaf show up again, on the hand thing on the door at Massive Dynamics. I'm also curious to see what role the woman who works there will have. I already forgot her name lol but her arm story was interesting.

I miss Human Target. :csad:

When they made the reveal about him, it was such an oh **** moment for me. I had expected him to keep popping up in the show r to kinda be on the team next to Liv and Peter. Even after, I suspected he'd end up as a recurring antagonist. And then bang he was dead. Though who knows if that'll be permanent?

i dont think it's out of the realm of possibility. they brought up re-animation earlier on in the show, and at the end, the woman told the orderly to interrogate him, even though he was clearly dead for 5 hour. so he could very well show back up.

My weekly heart attack from the Cowboys is over. I'm going to watch a bunch of episodes tonight.

Y'all gotta make it to episode 5. There are a lot of things that are falling nicely into play, and Walter is just a crazy bastard who you can't help but love sometimes. Bless his heart.

I'm watching episode two now. It definitely started out crazy

i wonder what peters medical condition is

just watched episodes 3 & 4. lots of stuff going on in the background that has my interests piqued and has me trying to figure things out. which of course, leaves me with more questions of my own lol.

Peter is still my favorite character. Walter is, well he's Walter lol Get that man a root beer float! Nice to see Astrid showing how valuable she is to the team as well.

it definitely looks like we haven't seen the last of John. i don't know at this point if she's 'seeing' him for real, or if because of the thing they did in episode one to connect their brain patterns. i can't think of what it was called for the life of me.

i'm enjoying the show so far, and it sounds like the other people watching are too

edit:

also,
can't wait to figure out what the deal with The Observer is. he seems to have every condition they've discussed so far. he doesn't seem to age, he hears thoughts or something like precognition or "ghost network". he writes in an odd language, and eats very oddly, seemingly to have little to no taste buds, according to that sandwich he ate, and comments to walter.

just finished up episode 8

looks like i was kinda right about some ideas i had
about john and liv's connection

i keep cracking up at Walter's horrible names for Astrid since he can't remember it. Astro. Asteroid. lol

i'm pretty sure i missed something about the apple. maybe i was away from the tv too long or something, but what did they do with it? i might have to watch the last ten minutes again.
i see re-animation showing up again. the boy's mom, for instance, or at least being hinted at.
i didn't like seeing Walter at the mental institution. it didn't do good for his psyche at all. i feel like there's something going on there too.

what episode is everyone else on?

I'm on episode 10 now. I'll probably watch about three tomorrow.

I think I'm going to end up getting to season 2 before I know it. I've had such bad insomnia lately, and this show gives me something to do when I'm up. I just watched episode 12 last night. I thought that they were finally going to give Astrid something to do, but it turned out to be a brief glimpse of her wanting the same D that every girl apparently wants in that show. Hopefully she doesn't get killed off right when Walter remembers her name like CC predicted. That would suck pretty badly.

The best thing about this show is
seeing which side is actually the villain. You got Massive Dynamic that definitely is up to no good, but they could be the wolf that protects the sheep. We all know that to protect the sheep you gotta catch the wolf, and it takes a wolf to catch a wolf. You heard me! It takes a wolf to catch a muther****ing wolf! /Denzel

Then there is the German guy who just broke out of prison. He had Olivia kidnapped, and then they put a spinal tap of some kind in her. Loeb said that they were trying to protect her, but he just told his "wife" to kill her when she was finding out too much information. How can they be protecting her when they try to kill her for getting too close?

I'm interested to see who is in the right here. It could be like in Priest's Black Panther run where a cop named Kasper Cole was basically at the mercy of all of these entities. Either he was in a dirty cop's pocket, and he's a good cop that doesn't want to go down that path. He could report them to Internal Affairs, but he'd be shunned into only being an IA "rat" that could never be a cop again. Or he could be the lackey of a certain chieftain of Wakanda who he'd always owe a favor to in the long run. Maybe this deal with Massive Dynamics, the German guy, and Fringe division is like that. Everybody wants to own Olivia's crew in some way so that their goals are achieved. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or maybe it's Maybelline.

i watched seven episodes last night. i'm enjoying this show a lot more than i thought i would. i think the cast and how well they play off each other really helps.

I started out watching episode 13 last night, but my body just gave out because I've been missing tons of sleep lately. I do agree that the characters play well off of each other. It's a very good show to binge watch. Out of all the J.J. Abrams shows I've seen this is my favorite.

Agreed, Im only up to I think episode Ten, but it really is a good show with the cast playing off each other so well.

Still love the formula for root beer bit.

yeah walter's food love reminds me of e-man :o
