If Clark developed some sort of hypnotic power, wouldn't that solve his secret identity dilemma?

It would be cool if they introduce something like this where he develops some sort of hypnotic thing around him that he can turn on or off so people won't recognize who he is and he just wears his glasses to complete his mild mannered reporter disguise.

Oh no, putting on a pair of glasses and having everyone not know who the hell he is is far more intelligent...

Really, you need to realize what you're talking about.

Oh right, I forgot that I wrote that plot line 75 years ago in action comics #1. but hey, hypnotic powers, that sounds great. while your at it, let's have adam knight be batman and chloe be lois. ooh. hey, how bout making lex a kryptonian and not have krypton explode. do yourself a favor and go rent the richard donner cut of superman II.

Or just watch Smallville as they're doing it right now. You puritans must really know nothing about the revisionism that's already going on in the show. BTW remember that John Byrne had an interaction between his super-vision and his glasses responsible for maintaining the clark illusion. That didn't stick, but his re-characterization of Lex as a Super-rich madman rather than a super genius did. And remember, that was the re-characterization that was used for the movies and for Smallville. Right now, they've dug themselves into a hole with figuring out how to keep Clark's identity secret in any plausible way. Mass planetary amnesia? Some form of illusion, coming from the suit perhaps, which makes Superman appear more godlike and which disguises his Clark form is going to be necessary. Or, they could just pretend that human facial recognition capacity isn't practically infallible and can't even work at great distances, so everyone just doesn't notice that Superman looks exactly like Clark.

Sarcasm can be clever, but in the case above, it can also just be plain stupid, given the context.

Firstly, I think maybe you should bone up on your Super-history. If you did, you'd know that that is EXACTLY how Silver Age Superman kept people from discovering his secret identity - he used trace amounts of "super-hypnotism" to keep the people close to him to really figuring it out.

Granted, I always thought that was a dumb idea and I don't think it should be introduced, but I think maybe you'd do well to recognize that it's not some out of left field noob theory.

While he's watching the Donner cut, maybe you should do yourself a favor and pick up some of the Superman Showcase books.

Lana: I'm in love with Lex
(Clark uses Hypnotic Powers)

So your way to solve everything is allow Clark to use the old Jedi mind trick.

fine, if thats the case then I guess we'll never see him fly, just leap tall buildings. oh, and if i'm not mistaken, superman could withstand anything up to a mortar blast. so forget about him falling from the atmosphere after getting rid of that nuke. should mrs. kent's name be mary?

There's a reason that super-hypnotism hasnt been seen in the last 3/4 of this century...

You make a good argument, excepting the fact that it's invalid.

By the time super-hypnotism was being implimented, Silver Age goofiness was in full-swing. Which means he could fly, was pretty much the smartest man on the planet, and could pretty much do whatever the **** he wanted.

The era which you're referring to - the Golden Age - saw a Superman who could only jump really high, was mildly impenetrable, and was pretty strong, and that's it.

Not entirely! This was explained in an old superman comic book once (the greatest hypnotizer of metropolis) “I think”
It’s really nothing new but it’d sure help Clark getting away with this secret identity thing
Instead of a complete make over such as we've seen in 1978 superman.

just because it was in a comic book, doesn't mean it isn't stupid. I don't understand why people are defending this argument. do you really want chloe to be all like "hey clark, give lana another blast of your superhypnosis"

I really don't feel I'm that far out of line here.

Jor-el will take care of it
By making Clark get rid of his imperfect primitive human feature
And replace it with a more perfect kryptonian symmetrical one
Then again just like in 1978 superman
He was an ugly cur turned into a prince charming right lol

that's true. isnt that guy really fat today???

Precisely
A comic book is a format purposely made to explain and make sense out a lot of unthinkable insane and even "stupid things".
It can become a new age religion of some sort.

Anyway there'll be no Chloe in superman future
The character should already be dead by now.

Why did Men in Black just pop into my head? LOL ;)

SV's Clark Kent?

Improve on THAT?

Now *this* I'd like to see! :wow:

Hypnotic powers? Is that where Clark turns water into an alcoholic drink.:woot: :word:

Really, you're not. It's a dumb idea, like a lot of ideas from the Silver Age are.

I just wanted to point out that there is indeed a comic book precedent for this idea though, and in all honesty I thought you were a little harsh in response to the original poster, so I got a little defensive.
