Variety reports that DreamWorks Pictures is close to a deal to acquire screen rights to "I Am Number Four," the first of a six-book science fiction deal that has Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay aboard to produce and possibly direct.

The trade says that one of the writers is James Frey, best known for writing "A Million Little Pieces." Neither the agency nor the studio would confirm.

It is expected that Steven Spielberg will be active in a behind-the-scenes capacity, similar to the role he has played in the "Transformers" franchise.

The franchise is about a group of nine earthbound alien teens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by a hostile species. While the high school-aged kids assimilate, the title character discovers that he is being hunted by the enemy that blew up his planet.

this is probably perfect for Bay. alien teens trying to assimilate. I'd love to see who he casts as the female aliens.

I'm all for it. Bay's a good technician and since these are based on books they can possibly reign him in enough to tell the story as it should.

Sure. Let him try it. At least it's not "My Name is 101". Stone him if he tries that!

i hope it has explosions, Gatsby was one boring ass book

I really wanna know if Spielberg was probed by an alien or something. He's obsessed with aliens.

As for this movie , it needs to have some Baysplosions and or Bayhem. Otherwise it won't be awesome

i am getting a little angry. its getting old ''i love aliens. bla bla''
you can not do 100 alien movies and produce 100 more.

isnt he producing now a tv-show with aliens?:wow:

Yes, yes it was. If Bay adapted "The Great Gatsby" I might actually enjoy it.

Whatever happened with Interstellar? Is he still working on that?

IMDb has a 2011 date on that movie, but I don't think it will be released so soon (especially not since both Tintin and Lincoln are scheduled for 2011). I haven't heard anything about production has started on it. 2012 or 2013 seems more likely as the earliest possible release date for Interstellar. If the movie will be made at all.

I just saw a report in TF forum (I am usually never there so it's news for me) that Bay is done with that franchise. So does this film/deal seal the deal for Bay/TF? If so, I respect him for not selling out on a third installment.

Bay isn't done with the TF franchise. He was just taking a break after working making TF and TF:ROTF back to back. He'll be back to direct the 3rd movie ( which will be released in 2012).

I thought Bay was taking a break after this new Transformers movie to do something else and then come back for Transformers 3.

I want him to do a western!

Whatever happened to the "little drama" Bay was going to do after finishing TF-2? Hasn't he had enough for a while?
