My idea, bro? Go to the beach. Take the whole family. And you and your dad just hang out. Spend a few nights there. You should be able to get to a holiday inn for about 300-something a night. (Holiday Inn is a pretty decent hotel, and very safe, but also cheap so if you go to your nearest beach...then it would be highly convenient but you can find your own hotel, that's not the point)
Anyway, yeah, $1000 could pay for the one or two nights there..gas...food...and dinner. You guys go to a fancy restaraunt, that's what 20 bucks each person? I'm guessing a family of four so that's only 80 bucks. You'd probablly even have cash for buying random items like balloon guitars or whatever you would want.
Family fun, your dad gets to chill with you and you guys can get closer. The money goes to the family so you won't feel selfish or whatever, and your dad can see that you love him and want to spend time with him.
And it'll be friggin awesome for you because it's summer and the beach...and if your parents piss you off or whatever, you can say "I'm goin down to the pool" and just play it off or "I'm going on the boardwalk, later..." and walk away.
Need I mention hot girls in bikinis? Hot asian girls...jet black hair, piercing brown eyes. *cries* Do it for me!!
