The Flash I don't understand how Wells/Thawne's plan would've worked (Season 1 spoilers)

So Wells/Thawne's plan was for Barry to go back to the past and save Nora Allen, so that Wells/Thawne could go back to a future which replicated his original timeline. This is the same timeline in which he fought Barry in 2024, which resulted in him going back to the past and being stuck there, so surely that would've happened again if Wells/Thawne has been successful in persuading Barry to save Nora Allen and travelling back to the future.. obviously this time round he wouldn't be able to kill Nora Allen since she's already dead, but he'd still end up stuck there, right?. Had Wells/Thawne not thought this through or am I missing something?

I think Thawne's plan was to trick Barry. Somehow Thawne would have went back to his time, and Barry would never became the Flash which was Thawne's original goal in the first place.
