Yes, that's why the embarrassment and that "ick!" factor are so high. You're better off thinking you're the only one. That's what I did when I was a teen anyway. There's some stuff people consider taboo. They get too uncomfortable thinking about it, so ignoring it and pushing it out of their mind is the easiest solution.

The look WAS complete. Heath-Joker was supposed to look dirty and nasty. The hat was unnecessary.

Yes, he's perfect to me already without the hat but looking at pics of him wearing pretty much the same kind of hat in real-life always made me wonder how he'd look with it as the Joker. Even if just for one scene.

Heath's face had the perfect shape for a hat (contrary to popular belief not everyone can wear hats and look good).

I just noticed Mad Men's Jon Hamm has that old-fashioned "Bruce Wayne the rich playboy" look from vintage Batman comics.
