For making "snarky" comments. I work at a toy store, where they apparently don't allow you to make jokes. That's right, no humor in the toy store. And soon, no talking, no fun, and no toys allowed.

The one I got written up for, I can see. We're supposed to ask every customer if they want to donate to autism, and I didnt ask the last 3 of one night, before we closed. And when asked why I didnt, I told the manager "It's late, I want to go home, I don't care anymore." Cause well...All of that was true. But I was also yelled at for things like this...

Other Employee: Hey, talk to this lady about the instant credit, she seemed interested.

The Joker: Will do. If she doesn't get it, you have to sign up to make up for it though ;).

Apparently, that could be construed as harrassment or insubordination. I'm so close to quitting it's not even funny.

Well I guess it also depends on what tone you used, something said in the wrong tone can have a totally diff meaning to how you intended.

Me and the guy I said it to always joke around like that. Hell, me and most of the people I work with regularly do that. Apparently, I'm not the only one who's been written up for it either, at least one other co-worker has for the same thing. Like I said, Toys R Us is apparently a humor free zone...like the airport.

damn, I'm filling out an online application for them too:(

They've been going the way of corporate BS for a while now. If you don't get X amount of Instant Credits, Buyer Protection Plans, and batteries every month, you don't get a raise. It used to be fun, and a cool job, but now it's just tedious, and probably the 2nd worst job I've ever had, after overnight stocking at Wal-Mart.

I refuse to work a job where I get paid commission or my performance is measured by a long list of targets.

I want to sell the customers what they want, not what the boys in the board room say we should sell them.

I never worked in a toy store wanted to once, but they didn't hire me, went on to work for the police dept, and locked myself in the jail and got wrote up for that instead.

Now everyone calls me barney.

Yeah...but that's an awesome thing to be written up for. I wouldn't be as mad if instead of "insubrdination and snarky comments" they had just made the official reason "mutiny." Cause at least that sounds cool. I was unaware that anyone even still used the word "snarky."

I agree with this, and it's a huge source of tension there. Especially on the IC thing, as those cards are specifically designed to put you into inescapable debt. I'm essentially being told to screw these people in the can with a big smile on my face. Which, if they're a hot chick, I'd be more than happy to do in a literal sense, but this way is just...unsavory.

I get that performance should be measured in some way, but selling products and finance and warranties, no sir.

technically it wasnt that I did it once, it was that I did it three times in one day, was still training and that lock they used to have on the jail, was tricky.
