What do you think of the latest pic of heath ledger as mista J?

  • Yes its fine that he's a regualr guy that applies white make-up

  • No because his skin should be bleached like its always been

So you're turning yourself into a hot brunette, and taking advantage of the situation in your newfound shell?

OMG....you really do wanna be like Ra's! Sickening!
oh ya; that was a really weird episode.

This thread is 757 pages long- a little extra won't hurt. :)

Apparently, I desperately want to be the sun rising up from behind the Moon and Earth whilst title cards appear below me...

i think you guys have pretty much killed the topic to the point where a perma white debate is something common on the boards. a little more wouldnt hurt, but its really not needed :cwink:

I want this Joker to be completely different from the 89’ joker. I don't want him to be done with a perfect smile or white skin from head to two. He should look like a psychopath and not so clean and neatly dressed like the 89’ Joker was.

The man wears a gold pocket watch...

I like that Heath Joker is more "handsome" in a way (for lack of a better word or FLOABW:woot: )than his predecessors. Isn't the devil supposed to be seductive and charming ?
That kind of casting reminds me of what Hitchcock did with Psycho when he cast Heartthrob du jour Anthony Perkins in Bates' role instead of a fat middle aged man like in Bloch's book.
Hitchcock also said "the better the villain, the better the movie" which seems to apply perfectly to TDK's philosophy (from what we know so far or FWWKSF)
Ppl have been comparing Nolan to Hitchcock, I think that if he keeps up the good work, in a few years he might very well get there.

I believe that a story is only as good as the antagonist. Which must be why Batman has endured so long. Although we really need to have some more villains apart from The Joker. There's a lot of potential with other characters, but they've been mishandled over the years. Just look at The Mad Hatter.

I think that Nolan could handle the Mad Hatter really well. I will say that he was portrayed pretty well in TAS (at first).

Ledger the actor is, but I'd say his Joker is the most off-putting appearance wise. The dirty clothing, messy make-up, and especially the huge mouth scars aren't typically seen as handsome.

That's why I used for lack of a better word. But you are right he is first and foremost a monster and it is the casting of an actor like Heath that probably makes him more seductive than previous incarnations, like I said before there is a certain dandy/Dorian Gray feeling to him and his attire.

What what what? Heath was a very attractive person, but The Dark Knight Joker? A scarred smile, messy makeup, long scraggly hair... he didn't earn the nickname "Hoboker" for nothing. This Joker doesn't look seductive or charming at all...which is the reason that I'm not as fond of this look.

I do agree an alluring villain with charm usually works best. It's why I'd pick Bela Lugosi over Max Shreck any day. I know many wouldn't, but I would. I've used those two before in comparisons when I've said Lugosi's Dracula was the type that could convincingly lure anyone into his home just through charm. If I saw Shreck's Orlok I'd run away as fast as I possibly could.

Thing is...I don't see the apparent charm in the greasy Joker look that you seem to see.

I liked Christopher Lee's, best. He had the elegance of Lugosi, but with a kind of rictus, Sphinx-line stillness that suited the immortal undead really well.

Andy Serkis for the role. Less dapper clothes and more of a Bill Sykes look. Oh, and have a scene where he keeps the cops at bay by ordering his mindless drones to shoot each other. Human puppets with dyed blonde hair and pretty blue dresses equipped with AK 47s. All protecting this creepy little shyster. I think it can be very good indeed. I want to write an origin story for this guy. Do comic scripts work in a similar fashion to screenplays? I've done some work in that department (Long, boring historical epics mostly) but I'm not sure if there is any specific way to write a comic script.

Lee's Dracula also carried great elegance and charm. Orlok sure as hell did not.

Well, I guess it's just me then:woot: . I see what you mean though and maybe Charisma would be a better word to try to describe what I am trying to say.
In the pics where the Joker is cleaner looking (in the car with the henchman, or the promo pics manniped on the hype) I see a tall, young creepy clown and even though he is scary as hell and I would not want to meet him:woot: , I could see how someone could be mesmerised or hypnotised by such a creature.

Oldman's 100 year old transvestite in oriental robes cracks me up everytime I see it. Excellent performance.

Ah, I see what you're saying. That was a great picture, good point, that one really did ooze wit, charm, and evilness all together. I definitely saw the mesmerism in that one.

Yeah, definitely a fresh and original take on an icon, a bit like what Heath and Nolan are doing with TDK.:woot:
Lol and your description is spot on .
