I'm creating a chart that breaks down the personality temperments of Phlegmatic, Choleric, Melancholy, and Sanguine.

I have one for Phlegmatic, Choleric and Sanguine, but I don't have one that represents melancholy.

A melancholic person likes to have things organized the way they want them. They tend to be moody and can be critical at times.

What is a good animal symbol for this?

Beavers are organizational freaks. Dunno if they're moody though.

I feel sorry for n00bs who join and first see jonty's avatar...without realizing the comedic significance...they just think, he found that somewhere and chose it. :(

It's a picture of all my facial parts arranged in the best way possible without context.

you could go for most animals in captivity really.

God, they have this Brown Bear at the zoo here that was driven insane 'cause his cage was too small.
He literally, like a broken record, just walks in a tight circle for most of the day.
I couldn't believe in this day/age they'd just leave him doing mad circles all day while little kids laugh.

Let's see... an animal that represents melancholy... one that by its very disposition reeks sadness...

And not necessarily something like a sad puppy or something. Hmm. Give me some time to meditate on this one.

i can imagine. sometimes empathize. "despite all my rage, i'm still just a rat in a cage" later comes melancoly.

I chose dog to represent Sanguine, because dogs will respond to whatever emotion is around them at the time.

I'm interested in a thinking pattern, not a mood.

He clearly has some level of mischief planned. Either that, or he laid a really stinky fart and is proud.

the thinking pattern is a direct response to niche. be that enforced or not.

Orangutans? No way. Those guys are either happy-looking or mean-looking.

They rarely look happy. Generally they just look... melancholy.
