I have a school project, and the thing is to write about books, movies, music or anything that was published / inspired by events or things from the 80s, and how they connect to said events. anyone wanna help?

I'm game.

PM me and I will be glad to help, forward my person email or number. I'm sure I can get Mrvlknight to help too. Both of us are products of the 80's.

Although I'm from the same generation you are from VvsS, I'd have to say it would be interesting if you could reference Watchmen since that was a reflection of what was happening in the 80's, such as with events like the Cold War taking place.

Good point.

One thing the 80's did well was depict the future on what was surround us then.

All the "what if's" were great, and Watchmen was one of them.

damn, I never even thought of that! thanks:woot:

Also, even though I'm a 90s kid, take note that much of the stuff in the 80s is coming back, like a black person tried to run for president then, and other things that happened then is happening now again. Cause some think every 30 years history repeats it's self

Talk about the rise and fall of Chevy Chase's career.

80's were about the Cold War and fears surrounding it, and overt materialism.

You want to understand the 80's watch the following films:

Red Dawn
World War III
Wall Street
The Breakfast Club

Rocky 4, how could you leave that out, a battle between the U.S. and U.S.S.R.

"Cause I'm a fighter! That's how I'm made, Adrian. That's what you married. We can't change what we are"

Don't forget American Psycho.

Watch War Games.

It dramatizes the rise of the computer and global thermonuclear war. Great Cold War fun.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Watch the greatest 80's movie ever made : Project X. Chimps + Virtual Reality flight sims = Awesomeness.

I could help. I'm an 80's aficionado. What exactly do you need help on? Is your project about how modern entertainment/pop culture is inspired by the 80's?

Man, just thinking about it, there's so much I could say. I'm just curious on the specifics.

Watch the movie Rock Star. The group was fictional but it could have been any number of hair bands from the '80s: overnight success, constant in-fighting between band members, love affairs with cocaine/booze/orgies.

It showed Drago juicing. As it turns out, we are learning that A LOT of athletes from that time period were doing that.

That was a fictionalized account of the Judas Priest story.

I think a better example would be Decline Of The Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years, which was a documentary about the Sunset Strip, it's bands and fans.

PM me if I there's anything left for me to help you with (you've got alot of replies). :word:

Check out the song "Russians" by Sting. It's a great song about the fears of escalation of the Cold War between US and USSR.

The song Pac-Man Fever. It was the beginning of the "Videogames" revolution.

Was going to suggest the original "We Are the World".

Don't forget the safety dance.........
