In the 4 disc Collector's Edition released several years ago, there are

1) US Theatrical Cut (1982)
2) International Theatrical Cut (1982)
3) Director's Cut (1992)
4) The Final Cut (2007)

Actually there is five cuts of the film. You forgot the Workprint cut. It's on both of the blu-ray releases.

The 2007 blu-ray is a 5 disc set: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Blade-Runner-Blu-ray/545/#Review. This one had 3 BDs and 2 DVDS. All the special features were on the dvds.

The 2012 blu-ray is a 3 disc set: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Blade-Runner-Blu-ray/50584/. The differences between this set and the former release was that the studio took the content on the 2 dvds in the former release and moved it to a blu-ray for this release. The Workprint cut was also redone in a new codec and given a lossless audio mix for this release. This is the better of the two releases and is only $14.

The workprint cut is my favorite version. It contains different shots and angles and dialogue and it has temp music in some places. The temp music in the finale was a creepy piece of music and it brought a whole other vibe to the scene of Batty chasing Deckard through the house. Makes it much more tense imo.

I like the director's cut as well. The only thing I have against the Final Cut is the heavy teal and blue color grading that was done on the new transfer. I prefer the warmer golden color grading of the older transfers.

I've never seen Blade Runner.
I don't think you're as alone as you think you are. It's not exactly Star Wars or Indiana Jones in terms of popularity. That said, it's one of my favorite movies of all-time, so I'd definitely recommend you get on it. :woot:

I have the director's cut of Blade Runner on DVD. I haven't seen the theatrical cut or the final cut.

I don't own the Blu-ray, I may of heard that the workprint existed, but since I don't have it, it never crossed my mind.

Blade runner went over my head the first time I saw it. I was a youngling . I then watched it again years later and enjoyed it a lot more.

Over all it is mine too....but I became real accustomed to the Ford narration...miss it at times.
I didn't see the theatrical cut until after I'd seen all the BTS stuff and heard the story behind Ford's narration - how he intentionally tanked it so it wouldn't be used and it ended up being used anyway - and so now whenever I watch that version that's all I hear: Harrison Ford trying to be terrible, lol. So it really never works for me. Director's Cut was the first version I saw and fell in love with. But then the Final Cut came out and was essentially a more polished version of that so it took the top spot.

Understandable. I didn't know it existed either until the 2007 blu-ray came out and I doubt you are alone in not knowing of it. Even on the blu-ray it's in a rough shape. The vfx are complete, but because it was only ever shown at one venue one time and only a workprint it wasn't taken care of at all.

If I'm not mistaken Scott thought it was destroyed and it actually would have been if not for some incredible luck. It and a bunch of other prints of films were sent off to be destroyed to make space in a warehouse, but it got stuck in a garage with some other film reels and it was forgotten about. When Scott and his crew decided to make the Final Cut they put out a call to find any and all prints of the various cuts of the film. Someone found this last copy of the workprint in a garage. It was in terrible shape but they cleaned it up and were able to restore it quite a bit.

It's amazing how these things work out. Film reels and lost films turn up in the strangest places.

There are so many films that are considered classics that I've never seen.

The Godfather films
The Back to the Future films
Dead Poet Society
Citizen Kane
Original Superman films
Blade Runner
Terminator films
Original Star Treks

amongst other films. Bring on the hate.

No hate, but disappointed the younger guns don't bother to check out the classics any more.

I saw it originally at the theater on first run. Then when it came out on tape I watched that dozens of times over the years. It was a long time before I ever saw it without the narration, and it sounded strange without it then.

God I love it when stuff like that happens. It's like a couple of years ago when one of the original DOCTOR WHO stories that was thought lost was found in some out of a way backwoods TV station in Africa.

No hate.....just sadness.

if we are talking disappointing finales, Dexter fought a hurricane.

He won, which pissed me off. Dexter's finale was ruined when they showed him alive, working construction. I hated a lot of things about the finale, but the end was just...no.

I haven't seen Dead Poet society. And I still need to see the first Star Trek movie. and I think the 3rd and 5th one. I've seen all the other ones though.

I'm sorry to cause such sadness due to my lack of viewing of classic films.

I shall play you all a song on the worlds smallest violin to compensate

I haven't seen most of those, either. I loved the Back to the Future movies and saw every Terminator except the first. I think I saw the first Superman when I was little, but I don't remember.

I keep meaning to watch Blade Runner since it's on my list, but much like the original Dr. Who,I never have.

The 1st Star Trek film is boring as ****. I don't really consider that one of those necessary "classics."

Have you ever been constipated for 2 hours and 12 minutes?

That's the first Star Trek movie.

Sig worthy.

I enjoy Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

yeah.gif

So do I. I mean, I know that it's too slow paced. I know that it's basically a big budget version of the Nomad episode. I know that it's trying too hard to NOT be the type of sci fi adventure show that the series was and IS trying to be closer to 2001... But I still enjoy it. I actually feel that the arc for Kirk in the films starts with ST:TMP. Is it a great ST film? Well... No. But I would rank it over almost all the TNG films.
