The last one was in 1994 and was a television miniseries, it could use an update. I really want this to happen.
I think that, the only way it could work is if it is split into two films, like Kill Bill. I dont think that one movie could contain this.

My dream cast...
Brad William Henke as Tom Cullen (His character on October Road always seemed somewhat mildly ******ed. When I was reading The Stand, I kept imagining Tom resembling him.)

Jensen Ackles as Larry Underwood (Dont let the model-looks and the fact that he's on a CW show fool you, he can really act.)

I'll come up with more later...

Jamey Sheridan (Randall) and Laura San Giacomo (Nadine) are the two stand-out actors that I can not stand from the first one.

It's also very dated. I'd be down for a remake. I guess the remake of It never came to be, sucks.

my fav book of all time, still to this day, i think about this book and how awesome it is. Needs to be made by someone good (Ridley Scott, Spielberg etc) and not by some cheap a$s studio with a budget of 50mill.

Kinda off-topic, but Marvel is doing a 30-issue adaptation.
I can't wait

wow...really?

I don't want a remake of The Stand until someone makes a decent version of It or Salem's Lot.

I like the original telefilm, but I could stand for a remake. One that follows the book perfectly. The Stand is by far my favorite book ever. One of Steven Kings best.

I think it would be almost impossible to make a theatrical movie based on this book, at least if you want an adaptation that "follows the book perfectly". Even in the six-hour miniseries there were some stuff missing. Personally I still found the tv-series one of the better adaptations for tv of a King-novel.

The Stand would probably make an amazing miniseries on HBO if it followed the book perfectly.

That would probably be the best way to do it. Do something like Band of Brothers, just a really long miniseries.

Here are a few more of my casting ideas...

Katee Sackhoff as Dayna Jurgens (When I was reading the book, I imagined Dayna being alot like Starbuck, just a tough chick that could probably fight any guy in the room with her.)

Josh Peck as Harold Lauder (This one was tough, I just dont know who could play Harold. I think he could come closest.)

Amy Acker as Nadine Cross (She would fit the role physically and I think shes got the acting chops to pull it off.)

Morgan Freeman as Judge Ferris (He's the only one for this role, IMO. Plus, he's been in two King adaptations before.)

Scout Taylor Compton as Julie Lawry (After seeing Halloween, I'm sure she could pull off the role of an over-sexed teenager.)

HBO would be fine, I'd prefer Sci-Fi since I actually have that channel.

It sounds weird, but I'd really like to see Samuel L. Jackson as Randall Flagg.

That does sound weird. I can see it now...

"What do you mean 'dark man'?!" :cmad::D

I hope that, should The Stand be adapted again, George Romero is the one behind it. I know that before the first miniseries, he planned to do a big-screen version, so hopefully he eventually gets his chance.

I'd like them to have Flagg looking young; I remember Dayna being shocked that he was so young(looking) in the book, and a 20 something guy ordering around Lloyd, Ratty, and Trashcan(if you get more seasoned actors for them) would be interesting.

Robert Knepper as Trashcan Man (He seems like he could pull off bat-s*** crazy, which is basically what Trashy is.)

Awesome stuff. I cant wait to get this. I'll probably get the first few issues then just wait until it comes out collected.

If anyone ever decides to do The Stand as a feature film, I have no idea who would play Flagg. The only people I could see as Randall Flagg is someone like Robert Duvall, or Christopher Walken of Willem Defoe. Those guys would be too old now, though.

Brad Dourif as Randall Flagg

I saw this on one of the Dark Tower film threads and I thought it was absolutely perfect. He may be a bit old for the role now, but IMO, there is no other guy for the part.
