Ideas for Movies that Haven't Been Made

All they'd have to do is change one thing and that would be loophole enough. People do it all the time.

Out or curiosity what is the plagiarism laws involved with writing down an idea and if someone was to steal the idea and turn it into a bazillion dollar film? Is having written down on a public forum enough to secure it? I'm thinking it would depend on the level of detail?

You can't really copyright an idea. If you have a completed story or screenplay, that you can copyright. But as the saying goes, there are only really about five different stories that exist which get told over and over again (or something like that). So two story ideas created by two different people could very well be incredibly similar.

Look at the similarities between Captain Marvel and Superman (a hero in tights and a cape who is virtually invulnerable, super strong, and can fly). Or the similarities between Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Twilight (a teenage girl falls in love with a vampire). Or the similarities between Captain Marvel and He-Man (an ordinary person speaks a magic word and is struck by lightning, turning him into his super-powered alter ego).

So you can't really sue over an idea. But if your completed screenplay is developed word for word and scene for scene, then you have a chance.

Yeh I guess thats true. Hm sometimes I feel I should just dump all my ideas on a forum as I'm nearly 30 and see no chance of ever having them turned into something.

Nice username. I would guess your movie is a space porn.

Captain Atom sounds an awful lot like Lt Paris's "Captain Proton" holodeck program on Star Trek: Voyager.

And Grimm City sounds an awful lot like the TV series Once Upon A Time.

Haha, check the dates, had the idea way before Once Upon A Time was public knowledge... it's typical though, I've had loads of ideas only discover someone else is making something similar. Mine was more of an adult tone, like a Sin City meets Fairy Tales type thing though..

I won't deny the Proton/Voyager similarity though, it was the inspiration for the idea.

I know what you mean. As a kid dreaming of becoming a professional wrestler, I used to come up with interesting new in ring personas. My grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather were all in the RCMP, so I thought "Why not be a Canadian version of the Big Boss Man and call myself The Mountie?" Then wouldn't you know it? Jaque Reugeau goes and does it first. Then I thought "My ancestors were Scandinavian. Why not dress up like a viking and call myself The Berserker?" Then what happens? There's a wrestling viking named The Berserker! I was beginning to wonder if Vince McMahon was somehow stealing my thoughts and making money off of them, lol.

A CIA-ish (but not really) Expendables team featuring John Wick, Robert McCall, Bryan Mills, Jason Bourne, Snow (Lockout), and Mike Banning (Olympus has Fallen).

In that case it's more like Fables and Wolf Among Us

Nothing Lasts Forever

Make it a closer adaption of that book, hire Arnold Schwarzenegger as Joseph Leland, and keep his wit intact when needed.
