What are some of the better Spiderman graphic novels out there. If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Can't go wrong with the Marvel Masterworks... they reprint the old Lee/Ditko stories in paperback up until issue #40 I think. Some other good choices are The Death of Gwen Stacy, which is pretty self-explanatory by the title, or Kraven's Last Hunt which was recently released in a new hardcover. Spider-Man: Blue, by Jeph Loeb, is another great one with Spidey reminiscing about Gwen Stacy.

I think it's in January...maybe December, but the Death of the Staceys will collect two classic stories. Get as many essential volumes as you can. Actaully, buying the 40 years of Amazing Spider-Man DVD would be the best rout. You can probably find it for 40 bucks online and you get over 500 issues of Amazing Spider-Man. It ruins some stuff when they have cross overs, but you get most of the classic Spidey tales.

Thanks a lot! I will keep an eye out for those. If you get any more just keep 'em coming.

Another option would be Ultimate Spider-Man. Obviously, it's not as great as Death of the Stacys or Spider-Man: Blue, but it can be a bit easier to get into for newer readers.

Pick up the Ultimate Spider-man tpbs. There great and easily accessible to new readers.

Also, Kraven's Last Hunt..is probably the greatest story in TPB form for Spider-man in my opinion.

i dont know why people say ultimate spider-man is not as good as amazing spider-man. I've read all of usm and most of amazing spider-man and i say go with ultimate spider-man. Its only 100 issues in and its got some of the best spidey stories ever. plus amazing spider-man has not been impressive lately. other then that i reccomend reading the first 150 issues of asm and all of usm. its alot of reading but it will change your view of comics.

Same way I feel.

It all boils down to opinion though.

Personally I've been hooked on USM since issue 1 at its the reason I started collecting comics again.

Aloha,
While I collect both titles, you must remember that Ultimate Spider-Man is a retelling of Amazing Spider-Man. The student is never greater than the teacher. But the student can certainly become as great in time. Ultimate Spider-Man has served its purpose very well. It's purpose was to get new readers back into Spider-Man.It's done that to the point where it does in fact compete and often beat Amazing in sales on a monthly basis.
BTW-Since you asked for Graphic novels and not Trade paperbacks or reprints-Here's a link - http://www.donaldspidermanthomas.com/html/library_graphicnovels_novels.html

Its an honour.:woot: After all your site is the reason ive read most of amazing spider-man. you really opened that world up for me so thank you.

and ultimate is sort of a retelling but its very loose because its plots are very different so i dont think ultimate should be considered a retelling. i like to think of it as a different vission of spider-man, a contemporary vision sort of.

Aloha,
As long as you're enjoying the world of Spider-Man, you're doing alright. Much thanks for visiting the library. Your comment proves to me that it's serving it's intended purpose.

I strongly recommend you pick up Essential SPider-man 1 - 4. They are great. First they really teach you everthing (ok most everything)about Spider-man . Plus they are a fun read.

I love your site but can't seem to get to the comics everyone is atalking about. I can't open the SM comics and read them. for example I'd love to read ASM 187
How do I?

A word of warning about them, though - not everyone can handle classic comic writing all that well (myself included).

That said, anything past ASM #50 or so, pure gold, IMO. :o:up:

Thanks again to everyone! You are really helping me in my search! I am starting to ask around to see where i can find the suggestions at a good price! But thanks again and keep the suggestions coming!

Another word about the Essentials/Marvel Masterworks... Essentials have about 30 stories in each book I think, at a price of about $20, but they are in black and white. If you can find the trades of the Marvel Masterworks (as opposed to the hardbacks) they are about $13 for 10 stories in color. Just a piece of information, if it helps you choose between them.
