Things we should know about Smallville and dont need a brand new thread for every other day:

1) Nothing is "supposed" to happen. The comics are the comics. The movies are the movies. Smallville is Smallville. They're all their own creatures, with their own rules, and their own continuities. Don't judge one, by the rules of another.

2) Bruce Wayne and Wonder Woman have as good of a chance of showing up on Smallville as the Cubs have of winning a World Series this year, which is to say zero.

3) Lana Lang is a main character on this series....so quit hating on her.

4) Chloe WILL NOT become Lois Lane.

5) Perry showed up, Lois is a main character, and now we have Jimmy. What does this say about the secret identity? That everyone is "galactically stupid"...or "that they always knew, but were just waiting for Clark to feel comfortable enough to tell them"....or "its a suspension of disbelief that has to be made in every incarnation of Superman, and this is just another one"....or "this is a show about Clark before he becomes Superman, so Smallville doesnt have to worry about it." Take your pick which one suits you and run with it.

and lastly,

6) The writers, producers, and the WB are determining how the show progresses and nobody cares what you would do differently. (edit: Now the cw)

Hope this brightens everybody's day.

LOL!

Glad you ran the spell check over that one. :woot:

LOL.. this is classic.

1) Nothing is "supposed" to happen. The comics are the comics. The movies are the movies. Smallville is Smallville. They're all their own creatures, with their own rules, and their own continuities. Don't judge one, by the rules of another.

I've always said.. it's all about expectations. Hate it or Love it for what it actually is, and not for what you think it should be.

2) Bruce Wayne and Wonder Woman have as good of a chance of showing up on Smallville as the Cubs have of winning a World Series this year, which is to say zero.
Sure.. rub it in. :(
But hey.. GO BEARS! :D

3) Lana Lang is a main character on this series....so quit hating on her.
*hugs'boom*
But I will say that people are going to have favorites and they're inevitably going to have characters that drive them nuts too. It's only natural. Being nasty and unreasonable isn't necessary though.

4) Chloe WILL NOT become Lois Lane.
I still don't really get why any Chloe fans would even support such a notion. I mean.. wouldn't you think they'd love Chloe for being who she is? Maybe I just don't understand the whole wacky theory well enough.

5) Perry showed up, Lois is a main character, and now we have Jimmy. What does this say about the secret identity? That everyone is "galactically stupid"...or "that they always knew, but were just waiting for Clark to feel comfortable enough to tell them"....or "its a suspension of disbelief that has to be made in every incarnation of Superman, and this is just another one"....or "this is a show about Clark before he becomes Superman, so Smallville doesnt have to worry about it." *applauding* :D

and lastly,

6) The writers, producers, and the WB are determining how the show progresses and nobody cares what you would do differently.

Hope this brightens everybody's day.

It did indeed brighten mine just a teeny wee bit. :)

With that much pent up frustration its gonna be a long season for you 'boom

Kaboom, your a genius.

I think a mod needs to sticky this message, since our forum has been inundated with useless threads as of late. :woot:

I really like to keep up on all threads, but its been very difficult to do that of late, espcially when there are threads titled, Is Jor-el Gone and Is the FOS dead.

I know I'm not the brightest bulb, but arent they kind of one and the same. :whatever:

Here's an example: We have an "6.04 Arrow" Thread, and an "Arrows Point" thread. What's the deal? They are both about the same stinking episode. Why does that garner two threads.

I think what Kaboom wants to accomplish with this is great. It has been pretty irritating trying to sift through the threads to find the actual discussions you want to be a part of.

There has been a huge influx of newbies to the board too, and while we like to have them feel welcome, they come on here and talk about things that have so PLAINLY been discussed to DEATH. :cmad: :whatever:

Something interesting about observations - this may not be the right thread, but it's close enough. Here's a prime example of how differently some people view the show outside of comic-oriented forums.

I talked to my son who's in college yesterday about Zod. He finally got to see it after having a friend tape it for him. First of all, he's a big SV fan and has watched every single episode, mostly with his geeky mother. I save all the shows on TiVo for him and we watch when he comes home for visits.

So I asked him how he liked Zod. "It was okay," he said. :(

Just okay? Wtf? Is this my son?

He explained, and I must admit, I was a little surprised. He said he didn't really like all that "Superman stuff" they are getting into (i.e. Zod and the PZ).. because it's stuff he doesn't really know or care about. He wants it to be more stories about Clark being a college student with special abilities, like it used to be a show about Clark as a h.s. kid with abilities. Sometimes we forget that there's a whole chunk of the viewing audience that really doesn't get all the classic Superman references, and doesn't have the same expectations that more traditional Superman enthusiasts do. I just thought that was interesting.

Weird, huh? But it makes sense. My h.s daughter and her friends liked Zod, but make no bones about the fact that they watch for Hot Tom shots, and they like all the female characters (yes, ALL 3 of them) and their romantic entanglements.

So.. there ya go.

i'm hoping it wont be. plus the frustration is coming with the new threads/posters, not the show.

yes quite.

That is an excellent point Serene. People who follow the comics, like me, sometimes do tend to forget that they are not only trying to play to the comic audience.

Some of us get so bent out of shape when they change things, or don't put enought "Mythos" into the show, when there are those that get really bored when they put too much of that stuff in.

Case in point...your son. My wife is also not a comic person. She watches the show for the characters and relationships. The comic stuff she finds neat, but they are not usually her favorites, not by a long shot.

Thank you for pointing that out. :woot:

Another pointless thread.

I disagree. This is a place where posters can come and check out some frequently asked questions, so to speak, before opening a pointless thread.

Thats bc even though the mods are usually pretty good, they dont always do the policing, and us regs here tend to ignore the stupid threads and then they die...vanishing into the ethereal ether. =)

Too funny, 'Boom....

I didn't even read this until you pointed it out because I thought it was another one of those pointless threads with a long-ass thread title....

:D

Too funny, but you make some good points.

I hope some mod comes along and stickies this.

^You left out the part about spamming and shaming the people who re-create threads to

well i couldnt get them alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll...........maybe ill make a new thread and add that one. LOL.

This cannot be said enough. From day one they've said it's a new interpretation of the mythology.

I would sticky this to every search there is for Smallville.

Completely debateable

You're the first person I've ever seen complain about that word here when it wasn't directed against an actual user

There is a factor called Context which can alter the situation. The context here is that there was no genuine intent to offend any real person. You seem to be upset by the word itself, regardless of context, but that's a personal matter for you, not something that society as a whole or the denizens of this particular board agree with.

getting offended because i called Lana a ****e, that's cute
i agree that if i called a user a ****e, then by all means, punish me
but Lana doesn't exist! so it shouldn't hurt anyone if a call Lana a big, fat ****e

(what a fun word to say, ****e)

Its a word, and let alone, a word against a character on a TV show that does act...loose or easy. Can we really get angered by someon'e NON-CHANGEABLE opinion?

Elijya said:
well, the fact of the matter is whether something offends you or not is a subjective matter, and honestly it's completely up to you whether that thing gets to you.

We as a society generally agree certain words are inappropriate, or, usually, inappropriate in certain environments, but the fact is it's simply the nature of the world that you will encounter things that may offend you, and many times these may be things that the rest of society ISN'T as offended by.

If this were a case of someone using racial slurs or something, especially if they're doing it seriously, yes, that's inappropriate. But this was a facetious use of one of the lightest words which carry a stigma, directed towards a fictitious character. Getting offended by that really doesn't compare to, say, someone shouting anti-semetic remarks while driving past a synagogue. Or if perhaps he'd used the word against another user here.

I don't see this like that at all because by your argument, someone using an 'lightly' anti-semitic slur in a fecetious fashion would be okay as long as he didn't really mean it...

Or is it only lightly sexist slurs that are okay when used in a fecetious manner?

Who defines what is "lightly" insulting and what is more egregious?

What's the test here?

It's a double standard...

It's hateful in any case, no matter who he was talking about. I don't have to justify feeling offended. I just am.

You don't have to care if it's not against the rules but you didn't have to slap me down either.

Yep. Now that triplet is mad at all of us for our opnions lets go back to non-dictator land where opinions aren't forced on us.

I don't disagree with any particular point except for this one.

Since Lana is a main character on the show, that means that people aren't entitled to dislike her (either the actress or the way she's written)? What? Why does the fact that she's a main character make a damn lick of difference?

If a viewer doesn't like the way a character is written, the storylines they're involved in, or the actor/actress that portrays them, aren't they entitled to that opinion and therefore entitled to voice them on an open forum such as this?

The fact that you grow tired of that fact is irrelevant. People are entitled to dislike any aspect of the show in the same regard that others are entitled to enjoy any aspect of the show. This is the "Smallville" forum, not the "I Hate Smallville" forum or the "I Love Smallville" forum. Both views are (or SHOULD) be welcome here.

Now, if you have a LEGITIMATE reason for wanting people to stop "hating" on Lana, please share it. Otherwise, point three on your list is completely irrelevant. :o

what's the test here?

how about this one: Can they use it on TV?

and the answer is yes

ever see Darrel Hammond do his Sean Connery impression when SNL did Celbrity Jeopardy? He used that word EVERY time he was on. On live Network TV. and taht's just one instance (repeated a dozen times as they did different versions of the sketch).

Throwing it into the search engine, I see that word has been used 500 times (500!) on the Hype in a little over a month, and only a handful of those uses where reported or had action taken against them

and I'm not slapping you down, I'm engaging in a discussion both so you understand where I'm coming from, and also because I think it's an interesting line of conversation, as censorship is a fascinating subject to me.

You guys just don't see the harm so I'm not going to argue the point anymore.

I'm done.
