If this is the last season. I really want them to spend a few extra bucks and have Coulson show up at the Avenger's new headquarters and at least one Avenger is there to see he is still alive.
Phil dies so the movies never have to deal with that dangling thread...because they never will anyway.
SHIELD is left in whatever shape the movies want it to be in. If Feige says that he considers SHIELD to be a thing of the past, then definitively end the team. If he says that he wants them as a legit force, then end this "government is hunting us" storyline.
May retires...they've already set it up that she will never be the fighter she once was.
Launch a superhero show out of this one. Deathlok (as an actual member...like...every week), Mockingbird, Hunter, Quake, Yo-Yo...I'm not sure if Ghost Rider fits with that team on a weekly basis...but fill the roster out as needed with other comic characters. Maybe close the book on Inhumans in the process. Honestly...all things considered (the terrible, franchise ruining miniseries...the possibility of getting the X-Men back) maybe the Inhumans should be exterminated.

Well that would just tick off fans of the show if that was done. As a good few on sites I go no elsewhere want to see a good resolution to the Avengers learning of Coulson still being alive.
That'd be an excuse to not give that a proper resolution.
Possibly or May becomes the new Director or retires with Coulson.
They did want to a spin off out of this, but it wasn't picked up by ABC. I'd prefer that Inhumans was kept around (Not the show just Inhumans in general.)

I'm not suggesting that every Inhuman be killed...but I think it could be a cool tv storyline to have the public just decide...yeah, these freaks have to go.

Most of the cast gets killed...save Lockjaw, of course. That way...in a few years when some professor starts talking about how gifted non-Inhuman people all share a genetic abnormality called an "X-gene" and that many more people around the world have it...then those of us who watch tv will know, as this gene starts being triggered without an external force, that the world will not react well to their existence.
It wouldn't be grinding the plot, it would be character motivation for them to team up once again - especially after Civil War when they have been torn apart by conflict. If people want a Cap cameo where he sees that Coulson is alive as Coulson retires forever...then...fine. But anyone who actually held out hope that the movies would grind a plot to a halt to explain the return of Coulson (aside from a comedy end credit scene) were fooling themselves.
That could be a good way to address in the comics why people are totally fine with super-powered individuals like Thor and the Hulk, but for some reason not the X Men. That has always annoyed me in the comics - if people have prejudice against the X Men because they are different, then why not with non-Mutant super-powered heroes?I'm not suggesting that every Inhuman be killed...but I think it could be a cool tv storyline to have the public just decide...yeah, these freaks have to go. I do, as do many others. The best place for it to happen would be in Infinity War.At this point, how many fans actually still care about this? I know I certainly don't. And it will honestly come across pointless and fan service-y.

A lot of fans of the show care about this. Plus there were plans initially for Coulson to be in Iron Man 3 and Thor the Dark World. So the Avengers, or at least some of them learning Coulson was alive was going to happen.
Plus it's one of the biggest unanswered questions in the MCU. It's high time this was resolved. Infinity War is the best time for that to happen, if not than Avengers 4.

Color me surprised. When I'm wrong I'm wrong. And according to Jeph Loeb there may actually resolve it.

"Its certainly something that will get resolved, and it may get resolved in a very surprising way, Loeb told Entertainment Weekly."

I'm assuming Avengers 4. With the potential time jumps and reality bending there's plenty of easy ways to explain his appearance.
Coulson being alive is not an unresolved story. We've been watching him for years on tv. Is there some reason why a movie...the vast majority of its audience not giving a crap about this show...should devote valuable screen time to explaining why he's alive? If he dies on this show...guess what...the Avengers think he's dead...and he's dead...there you go. Rather than waste time reintroducing Coulson in a movie, I'd prefer a film actually introduce Quake or Mockingbird or any number of the vast catalog of comic characters.
I get that a tiny minority of fans want this...I just dont understand why you think that this minority should somehow get their way, which would be nothing but an inconvenience and annoyance to the majority of viewers. If people cared to see Coulson, they could tune in to ABC to see him...and most Marvel fans don't.
