Hey, I was just wondering why there seems to be a real lack of good villains in the superman series. There just isnt anyone as great as a Spiderman villain. It almost seems like the DC writers have NO imagination whatsoever, except for Batman, but even then (iceman? poison ivy? joker? cmon!).

I dont know, I guess my one reason for not following the superman series is because superman is this extremely powerful being and that he has no one to match his strength.

If you notice in superman returns, it was never Superman VS Lex Luthor, because that would involve a battle, which there was not. The movie should have been called "Superman VS Henchmen which are stronger than Superman because of the kryptonite in his organs" or "Superman VS A Falling Airplane" (not reminiscent of 9/11 one bit:eek:) or "Superman VS An Ungrateful woman who has such a high opinion of herself that she thinks the rest of the worlds men should FIGHT for her"

But it wasnt and there just seemed to be something missing in the movie that wasnt there. Maybe they thought they needed to reintroduce the series and bore everyone before they had a villain. But even the next villain is gonna be a panzee. Brainiac... wasnt that the nickname that everyone gave the short ugly kid who picked his nose in the back of the room and smeared it all over his desk in grade 4?

If you ask me, they shouldnt have had Lex Luthor in it, I think the only reason he was introduced was because Kevin Spacey wanted to get his hands on a comic book movie so that younger generations would take interest in him and therefore bring in bigger crowds to his future movies.

So getting to the point I thought of a thread to which we could all brainstorm up some ideas for a good super villain that was worth involving in the next movie.

Mine would be like a non-***** version of bizarro. I liked the darkness of the Bizarro suit and the unshaven look to him. But I thought that would make the whole series kick ass if thats what Superman himself always looked like. Bizarro would be this counterpart that would just kick ass, but had no cape like superman. When he wasnt kicking the crap out of superman he would just rip the city apart by flying through buildings and chucking houses at buildings, and chucking buildings at houses. You know, stuff like that. I clearly have more villains to talk about but lets see what everyone else has got to offer first.

First of all, it's Mr. Freeze, not Iceman. Iceman's a member of the X-Men.

Secondly, S:TAS actually made Superman's enemies genuinely threatening. So the problem isn't the villains, it's the writers who handle them.

Finally, I don't think they should be making up villains for Kal-El to fight, because the last time they went down that path for the movies, all we got were Luthor and Bizarro knockoffs (Ross Webster and Nuclear Man). If they wanna make up their own villains, save it for a movie series or cartoon or something that involves a grown-up Jason becoming Superman.

SINGERMAN!
he is the ultimate threat to superman.
he has the power to destroy the cinematic superman for another 20 odd years.
all its going to take is a direct sequel to SR.
forget brainiac, darkseid, zod, any of them. singerman is the real threat to the man of steels cinematic existence.

Able to make Jon Peters' ideas such as giant spiders, gay robots, and polar bears, and actually make them sound more imaginative than SR. Now that's really a super villian power.

"Singer's vision isn't perfect, but I'll take a Donneresque sequel with an S-buckle, Lex's land fix and a Supertot over a Burtonized reboot with a dagger S-shield, Brainiac's boyfriend and a moping Nic Cage any day."

tttttttthat actually doesn't sound so bad compared to what we got.

You must have liked Batman & Robin, I'm guessing. :(

Superman is probably the hardest hero to write for for this one reason; there are few problems worthy of his name. Thus most of Superman's comics suck (like his movies), but he endures the hilarity of his interpretations for he was the first and is still the most mythic.

If I could create a villain it would be a ball of allusions to characters who will never be on screen (or whose names are just ridiculous) like Metallo, Bizarro, and the false Supermen including Steel and the android.

I would simply have a character like Darkseid make an inorganic clone of Superman who is solid steel, has magnetic powers like Magneto, is capable of flying, can fire lightning from his body, and meld metal to his body.

You see the only problems with movies nowadays or even comics is that villains almost always never have a backstory and the writers always make them out as a flat character.
If i were to make a movie, it would show both stories of the 2 characters. It always seems that the director wants to portray a character a certain way. but if I were director, id direct it in such a way that youd be completely neutral on whos side to pick. Its kind of like the Marvel Civil War series right now with all their "whos side are you on?" advertisements.
