Just curious here, but I've been thinking: Superman Returns wasn't all bad, but it had MANY flaws and I just can't find myself able to watch it, especially since the last thing I want is a sequel to it.

I read the postings of ostensibly like-minded people, but I think we have a disconnect on what we hated about the film and/or what didn't make it work at the box office.

To that end, I ask what you would change about the film if you could. ONE thing, though. What was THE most important thing you would have changed. There are TWO major flaws in my mind, but I can only choose one, so let's find out.

If there is enough demand I might create one where you can pick multiple things that bug you.

Oh, and people who loved the film and/or want a sequel can also vote here.

i think you are 3 years late he he . i think we talked about almost everything

SR still has it's own forum, right?

Yes, but this is about perspective. I want to see if I agree with everyone on the MAIN reason they didn't like it, or if they did, what they didn't like about it.

there are at least 10 threads with at least 10 pages in the SR thread where you will see what people think about SR.

This doesn't belong here. Do you want me to move it or close it?

All of the above.

But, to be simple, Well, i'd change the script.

By that, I'd change Luthor to a more updated version instead of the Donner take. In Superman's absence, Luthor would've risen to the power and became a hero to the people of Metropolis. Superman would've also brought back a souvenier he found from his home planet, The Eradicator/ Braniac.

I'd also make a little intro dealing with Superman events before he left, where he would say goodbye to Lois and to Earth. I'd completely remove Jason and Richard from the picture too. The movie would be about "Superman's place in the universe and as a saviour of Earth" and not about "girlfriends moving on".

-would have given supes more dialogue
-more of a challenge and updated Lex

I don't mind it here, Show. The point of this seems to have more to do with a story arc and/or the reboot debate.

I'd really like to see the Jason thing altered for the next movie, whether it be used in a sequel, prequel, or reboot. As much as I've said that I'd like a sequel, I really just want to see a long series in which Superman is Superman. I saw a lot of that in Superman Returns, so I have no problem seeing that continue.

I'd like to change all of then, but, if I had to pick one, it'd be Jason being Superman's son. I'd make him Richard's son with his first wife, who he was married with before Lois.

A more serious Luthor, Lois angry at Superman because he went away not because he didn't say good-bye and less Donner quotes.

I am with protocida. That would've worked much better and the kid could stay in. I also would have at least had a empowered Superman have an actual fist to fist battle with Luthor and all the other baddies. Almost a brawl type at least, if they didn't introduce a more fit villain for physical confrontation. The ending was kind of abrupt in my opinion as well, he was sick then got better, and told Lois he's always around. I would've maybe opted for something a little more satisfying.

Yes. But that includes changing the main character so in the end you'll be saying you want to see another superhero's movie actually. :P

Lex should, at least, made an battle armor with the Kryptonian technology.

Jason is easily the biggest problem. Any other "problems" could easily be dealt with in a sequel, but Jason would be very problematic. I think few people would have a problem with getting rid of him, but the problem is how to get rid of a kid. An adult you could just kill off.

None of the above.

I love the movie as is.

BUT if I had to change something, it'd be to add more action in general, would give Superman a few more lines and would brighten the cinematography in general, as well as the red in the suit. I would also add a clifhanger of a new supervillain coming to Earth at the end, like Brainiac's ship or something like that.

And I really like Jason. Think he is a good opportunity to explore and to add more depth to Superman's character and the mythos, and it also serves as a new 'weakness' to Supes other than kryptonite. It could be really epic and compelling if handled well. I think Bryan Singer could make it work. He is a really good storyteller, imo.

Oh, BUT this is WB we are talking about....... the same people who greenlit Catwoman, B&R, almost greenlit JL: Mortal with DJ Cotrona as Superman...... and who spent way too much $ on Watchmen and TS.

Jason is what ruined the movie. Superman, not to get too religious here, is like a Jesus figure. He has a child out of wedlock, without the audience getting used to and appreciating Brandon Routh as Superman and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, why would the audience care.

Now, if Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder was in the movie in the place of Brandon and Kate, than Jason would be more meaningful because we appreciate and love both characters, but after being introduced to two new actors and throw in a kid, why would I care for that????

Hi this is my first time on this board.

I loved Superman Returns but if I had to change anything then it would be giving Routh more screentime then Bosworth. Because:

a: I felt the film was more about Lois Lane and less about Superman/Clark.
b: I think Routh was awesome so would have been great to have more of him.

Oh and I'd give Routh a Superman 3 (after the good Supes/Bad supes fight) style shirt rip.

I would have kept the Journey to Krypton in. So what if it was a 3 hour movie.

I'll list several:

* No Jason.
* A worthy Lois Lane.
* A suit with the real Superman colors.
* Change some of Superman's more questionable behavior in the film.
* Have a major villain for Superman to fight, with no Lex Luthor.
* More dialogue for Superman.

So actually, a completely different movie! :)

Despite the fact that I still absolutely love the movie, in hindsight, the kid was a bad idea, and audience's just didnt react to it. Everything else I would have kept the same.
