I'm buying a car (Need help)

At the moment I have it narrowed down to two choices.

Honda Civic Hybrid
Volkswagen Jetta TDI

To be completely honest, I know next to nothing about cars. So which of these two would you guys recommend?

Where do you live?

I have a VW Jetta, which has been a pretty nice car with great gas mileage and a far lower chance of being stolen than a Civic... However when I did have a problem with it I had to have it towed almost two hours away to find a mechanic qualified to work on it then it took 2 weeks for the parts to be specially ordered and sent in.

Long story short, if you don't have a VW mechanic or dealer near by then you should go with the Honda.

Magic Walrus makes a good point. Some other things to consider (if you haven't already):

Insurance - talk to your insurance company and find out the difference in premiums between your two choices.

Maintenance - how much do oil changes cost? how about other things? how about tires? (costs can add up)

How can you say that one of these cars is more feminine looking?

EDIT: And if you do, how the hell could you say the VW is more feminine than that Civic?

I got a Honda Civic after getting a great price from a local dealer. My insurance is pretty high now. I actually didn't realize Civics got stolen so often. Oops.

If it's down to two, shop around the dealers online and see who'll give you the best price. It's great because then you just walk into the dealer with the printout, no need to haggle. The dealer I got my car from actually LOST money on me since the price I paid was so much lower than the invoice price. (I'm financing through them, they'll get my interest.) Of course this mostly works when you're buying new. I drive my cars until they die, so it made sense to buy new for me. Plus I hate the hassle of checking out old cars to make sure they're ok, etc etc.

I have heard that buying parts for European cars is a huge pain, if that's a factor. My dealer has a special where the the first 5 oil changes are free, and the new Hondas even has a maintenance minder that tells you exactly when you need to do it. It's actually every 7500 miles now instead of 3000 like my dad insists, so those will last me for 5 years.
