I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Man, what a waste of Pedro Pascal that movie is. Maxlord is so freaking good, and then the rest is so bizarre.

The movie is very first draft. So much hinge on relationships and ideas that just don't exist. Which really exposes Gadot's limitations as an actor, because she can't produce that stuff on her own.

These list legit mean nothing.

If I was going to guess the box office winners, it would be:

1. JW
2. Lilo and Stitch
3. How to Train Your Dragon
4. Superman or Fantastic Four

The only think I feel sure about is Lilo and Stitch is being slept on.

We're also supposed to believe after 70 years Diana is STILL moping about Steve? I get it, they say you never really get over your first true love but damn. It would have been more interesting to see Diana living her life and maybe in a new relationship and then the reappearance of Steve (in his own body) complicates Diana emotionally.

This is probably what the top five is going to look like with Thunderbolts and M:I trailing behind them. I think Jurassic World and Lilo and Stitch taking the top two spots is highly likely. I'm kinda hoping for HTTYD to fall behind though. I don't think it will but if it truly is more or less a shot for shot remake of the original then I'd rather see it taper off after its opening weekend.

Yeah, I think the idea of of the HTTYD remake is awful. But I think it will do well and then lead to middling returns for 2 and 3.

I am kind of curious how Karate Kid Legends will do, since the 2010 one didn't seem to get a china release. But it is definitely going to be a race between JW and L&S.

That would be something if Lilo & Stitch takes the summer box office by storm and outperforms Snow White.

Would kinda remind me of when Disney thought Pocahontas would perform better than The Lion King so they assigned their top animators on the former. We all saw how that panned out.

Lilo & Stitch taking the summer would not shock me in the slightest. Stitch has way more appeal than Snow White ever would've. Snow White, while beautifully animated, is kind of a meh film on the whole. Remake ain't got much to work with regardless. Meanwhile Stitch is cute, so go all in.

I’m still holding out hope that people will stop going to see JW films but I know it will make a billion. It’s just Transformers or Fast & Furious with dinosaurs and people will fork over their cash for more of the same crap.

Lilo & Stitch and JW are almost 100% safe bets. FF/Superman are both kind of up in the air and could go in literally any direction - I have marginally more faith in FF simply because an MCU movie that doesn't look terrible with recognizable, popular actors is probably a safer bet than a DC movie with a cast no one knows. But also there's a huge chance Superman is considerably better than FF which is where word of mouth comes in. Really know way to tell currently, to the point speculation is borderline pointless.

I still don't really get why Superman is sandwiching itself in-between JW and FF. Really not helping its chances at all for a measly July release. Especially with how barren June is save for the aforementioned HTTYD.

And here I would've thought Gunn and Zaslav's confidence in The Flash painted a different story.
But clearly they were lying!! It's impossible they were just profoundly wrong and (in Zaslav's case) a legitimate ****ing moron! The Flash is so obviously a movie Gunn would love its not even funny.

Lilo & Stitch is going to make 94 bazillion dollars. Would not shock me in the slightest if it was the highest grosser of the Summer. That or JW seem like the safest bets.
I think Lilo & Stitch has a real shot at the domestic crown unless Superman breaks out. JW should do the business in China and thus I think it'll win WW.

I'm super curious about Fantastic Four. I feel like it has a chance to be meh to bad in terms of returns, but I honestly feel like Pedro gives it a real shot. That man is beloved. More then any other aspect.

Pedro is crazy beloved. He's a really, really big get.

Based on how little noise the final season of Cobra Kai made, I'm not so sure how well it'll fare at the box office. The perfect window for this would have been 2-3 years ago when Cobra Kai's popularity was at its peak.

This one actually looks like maybe it could be a bit of a course correction after how ridiculous Dominion got but time will tell.

I don't 100% remember but I think Superman was the first one to lay claim to its July release date before Fantastic Four took the later July spot after being delayed, and then Jurassic World showed up out of nowhere.

Certainly will help that it's the last big Summer blockbuster.

If a thirty year old white dude had the kind of heat and popularity behind him Pedro does we'd be seeing a dozen articles about "Is this... is this man a MOVIE STAR?!". As happens every time an incredibly boring new white guy with Brad Pitt-adjacent looks is in one to two successful movies. Strange how that happens for literally no other kind of actor.
