I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I just gotta ask, has there ever been a bigger glow up in Hollywood than Sydney Sweeney? She does Madame Web last year and now i feel like i’m reading about a new project she’s attached to every week in Variety.

Someone get Cavill her agent :o
She got a lot of exposure with Euphoria and Anyone But You. I'm just confused as to how she became a producer out of nowhere.

I am guessing she formed her own production company?
Apparently she formed one with her now ex-fiance. Drama.

But it makes sense. She produced Anyone But You after only having one really big breakout role in Euphoria.

Finally getting to rewatch Brave New World on blu ray (thats right y’all, somebody’s gotta support it lol).

Poor Anthony Mackie, you can tell he’s the doing the very best he can here but…he’s no Wesley Snipes, or Chadwick Boseman.

My dream casting would’ve been:

Denzel- Magneto
Fishburne- Proff X

Especially when they were a bit younger. A real MLK v Malcolm X in pov via cb form.

He has permanent sidekick energy.

I love Falcon, and I don't think making him Cap was doomed or anything. To Marvel's credit, he actually got featured in multiple projects. The issue is they didn't crack him like they did Steve circa TWS (though I would say TFA, but to the GA it was TWS). I liked things about BNW, but all the good material was given to Isaiah and Ross. Falcon & Winter Soldier had a decent idea for the core series, but it was executed badly. John Walker as the Govt Cap and Sam having to earn his way to being seen as Cap was a decent idea. But we spent most of the time giving him character on a boat plot no one cared about. They didn't know what to do with Sam to make him interesting

Marvel really did go overboard on the legacy heroes post-Endgame.
And none of these people are gonna be showing up in Doomsday and Secret Wars lmao
The only legacy heroes who have fully replaced the originals so far are all in Doomsday: Sam, Yelena, Shuri and Joaquin.

The others I don't consider to be legacy heroes yet since the originals are still active, like She-Hulk, Kate Bishop (though she'll probably be the main Hawkeye soon enough), Jane Foster's Thor (when she gets resurrected), Ironheart, Ms. Marvel, etc. Some of them aren't meant to be replacements for the OG heroes at all.

They didn't crack him, because there is nothing to crack. He's a sidekick, full stop. He's also a POC who is somehow less radical then Steve. Imagine if T'Challa acted like a conservative Democratic while being Black Panther. :funny:

I'm rooting for both but how many of those Superman views were Snyder bros hate watching? :o

My barometer for trailer views equating to box office success is totally askew after this:

I dont quite agree. You can make almost any character work, you just have to crack the code. Marvel I agree didn't. But Sam has been done well in comic storylines and such, so no reason a movie hypothetically couldn't have made it work

I think the problem they are up against no matter what, even if they find a good script for him, is Mackie. He just doesn't have it for this kind of leading man role. And I don't foresee him developing it.

And strangely enough, to top it all off Sam sort of loses his personality in this movie. He’s trying hard here to be the stoic badass hero instead of the likeable everyman that used to get Steve to lighten up. And thats really all he is in this movie; he doesnt have a personal story arc or love interest or personal goals, he’s just going on this mission and thats all thats driving the character.

Listen I’m not the one over here constantly declaring their CBM of choice is dominating the summer. I’ve said many times now I don’t think any CBM is doing that this year. Just offering a healthy dose of reality to that poor soul. :hehe:

Trailer views matter. Not more then other aspects, but it shows a level of hype that can be cashed in on if the movie reviews well.

The problem with F4 is like Thunderbolts, there is no bubbling hype that certain people keep suggesting exist because of the group's name in the Marvel canon. F4 ain't big names in 2025.
