I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I have the feeling that the era of comic book movies really ended and dont come back as long they cant create some dumb tiktok hype but this is the era we are living.
I expect FF and Superman also flop more or less.
That Era which you speak of isn’t gone.
It’s just taking a few lumps right now.
This Too Shall Pass.

Since Superman hit in the 70s, every decade has had a strong superhero franchise. It's just dependent on what takes off. I have no doubt Doomsday and Spidey 4 will make money next year.

Very Excited to see the next Glorious Spider-Man adventure.
I simply cannot wait to see what they come up with next.

Looks like New Avengers might not even hit $400 million worldwide. In a sign of how far Marvel has fallen, both Captain America and New Avengers will make less than Aquaman 2.

The next big thing is video game adaptations. :o
Thanks to the first good game adaptation, Detective Pikachu, which opened the door to The Last Of Us. :o

Seriously, I thought WB would be making a bunch of Pokemon movies.

Comic book movies are just in a phase where they have to work a lot harder to impress people than they used to. Before they could get by on the novelty of seeing ______ character on the big screen for the very first time. But now, we've had well over 100 movies and shows in the past two decades so people are naturally going to be more discerning of these things now. You need an interesting hook or gimmick now to give people reason to fork over cash to go see cbms in the theater.

Which I think basically means, we're going to be seeing a lot more crossovers in the future. From Marvel and DC.

I'm sure this is what people thought with musicals and westerns. :o

I miss when we'd be flooded with crappy games based on movies and not the other way around. :o

If they had made a live action adaptation of Red/Blue/the original anime instead of a more obscure story with Pikachu voiced by Ryan Reynolds, it would have made a billion and we'd probably be 4 or 5 movies deep by now.

To be fair, Aquaman 2 was a sequel to a billion dollar film, which while it dipped over half its box office, it still had a wider audience. Both BNW and the artist now called New Avengers have tried and true name branding, but star characters who had been only side characters, and not ones that penetrated the zeitgeist like Black Panther did. So those movies are essentially movie 1 for those respective characters as opposed to true sequels. They're more like The Bourne Legacy than true sequels on their franchises. So, I don't quite judge their performance based on them competing with Cap 1-3 or the 4 Avengers movies. Doomsday is THAT sequel. New Avengers is a new IP essentially.

If you compare them to Phase 1/2 era 1st movies in a franchise, they compare a bit better. So I would not write sequels off at this point and see what the reception is post Doomsday. Cause you can maybe have a similar Avengers 1 to sequels effect on these franchises if those movies perform well and the audience likes it and SW.

Fantastic Four is a bit more of a wild card considering its a full reboot and has some brand recognition, though not entirely positive, and these are entirely new characters like GOTG, Strange, or Ant-Man before their movies.

I feel there is a non-zero chance that kripke has someone kiss the other with the reunion on The Boys.

I think the biggest issue for Superman for the box office, is if it can avoid the demographic issue that has been plaguing Marvel this year. I mean, with Final Destination blowing up, I Know What You Did Last Summer may be a threat from just pure demographics. The kids seem to be loving horror. And I love that for them.

From clips that have been popping up, I see Rosenbaum has interviewed Dean Cain. And I'm just thinking how can you be a decent interviewer and not go after him for his crazy ****.

**** Dean Cain. No one should interview his bigoted, stupid ass unless you’re doing so to deliberately troll him for his fascist politics or (even worse) his acting ability.

And I don’t care how some of ya’ll feel about it. Lois & Clark sucked and always will.

Lois & Clark was fine for 90s era television. I'm never going to watch it again, I have no reason to. There are better superhero shows out there to watch and just better TV coming out every 10 seconds. I can't even keep up with actual amazing shows, let alone one from the 90s that was....fine

I feel like Marvel and DC are leaving money on the table not doing their supernatural hero movies. Midnight Sons and Justice League Dark I think could of done well.

I think Nova could of done well on the big screen too. People liked the cosmic Guardians of the Galaxy stuff. The Starship Troopers mixed with annihilation wave stuff sounded good.
