I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I can easily see why he got replaced, lol!!! First line the man had I was like wow that's a bad actor. Then they said he was Lex and I was like "I am sorry, what?" Lol

Doesn't the lead actor for Superboy change happen in S4? I feel like I vaguely remember that, but this is first time I have watched any of the show, so I trust you on this lol! I may watch more, but this might be a show I watch here and there and don't binge.
Nope, there were only 4 seasons in total. John Haymes Newton got replaced after S1 due to a traffic ticket or demanding better pay, depending on whose story you listen to lol. Gerard Christopher was the lead for seasons 2-4. He was much closer to Chris Reeve in performance, whereas Newton’s Clark was more just a regular chill guy (he was kinda the first live-action Post-Crisis Clark, though Dean Cain’s was the more fully-realized version of that), which is why I preferred him.

I may have to skip to a future season episode just to get a sense of the differences. I feel like this is the kind of show I can do that and it won't matter much lol

That would be accurate lol. Sherman Howard actually WROTE an episode where Lex and Superboy got trapped in an underground mine together with Kryptonite, which was directly plagiarized by Smallville like a couple decades later. That was a solid ep. Stan Berkowitz wrote a two-parter in S3 that was very similar to the STAS episode he would write years later “Brave New Metropolis” about an alternate universe with a darker Supes. Honestly I think Mark Millar cribbed some elements of Red Son from that too. I believe those eps are called “Roads Not Taken.”

These sound appealing!

I don’t wanna set expectations too high as they are still cheap and campy as hell but they definitely have their Saturday Morning serial charms lol (just looked it up and the mine one is called - wait for it - “Mine Games”! Also S3). I’m definitely gonna include that show in my all-encompassing Supes rewatch leading up to July! :supes:

I need to check out this Superboy TV show for myself, never even heard of it prior to this forum.

Even wilder to me that the same show had Stacy Haiduk from Days of Our Lives on it.

Can't even picture crazy Kristen DiMera as Lana Lang lol.

Don't listen to her. She just wants the male lead. :o

She is literally the best Lana we have ever gotten. Low bar, but still. Another one of the reasons I preferred Newton as the lead was because their chemistry was fire (which makes sense, they dated for a while). Gerard Christopher was like a decade older so they ended up having more bro/sis vibes than the show really wanted lol.

I can see that. Stacy Haiduk is SOOO good, she makes any script work. But yeah it also helps that she and Supes dated lol.

I thought Emmanuelle Chriqui's Lana was okay, even though I didn't really care for the character. Lana and her family was the only dose of CW with the teen soap stuff on S&L.

Chriqui was fine. Better than Kreuk and O’Toole. But my favorite comics Lana is the New 52 electrical engineer Lana. She had a personality. And I feel like Stacy’s version is the easiest live-action one to imagine becoming her.

After a quick google search, it has come to my attention that I should've known Kristin as I have seen plenty of episodes of Smallville. I have only seen Mischa in one thing and she was 13 in it :funny:

You’re forgiven, since you were a baby yourself in their heyday.

The WB and Fox used to be must see tv. :sneeze:

You missed the queen of teen soap melodrama?!?

EDIT: And of course the trigger woman behind this iconic moment!

Pleeeeeease tell me you were a One Tree Hill fan too.
Nah. My roommates watched so I’ve seen some, but I liked The OC because it was funny. One Tree Hill was like all the melodrama with none of the comedy. Too much for me. Also the male leads were especially atrocious. :funny: Dawson’s Creek, The OC and Gilmore Girls were my go-to teen soaps. Still watch Gilmore on the regular. Ultimate comfort show.

I'm going to assume that's "The OC"? My entire knowledge of "The OC" starts and ends with knowing it's called "The OC" :funny:
It is indeed. Poor kid from Chino who got in trouble stealing a car goes home with and eventually gets adopted by his public defender and rich wife who live in Newport Beach. Classic fish-out-of-water and bad-boy-falling-for-poor-little-rich-girl shenanigans ensue. Adam Brody being geeky other son who also doesn’t fit in. “the OC” stands for Orange County, just don’t try to call it that if you ever go there because they definitely don’t. :funny:

Oh 2000s teen drama. What a genre!

Welp.

I may never get the X-Men movie that I crave, but atleast we'll have a Batman movie where James Gunn makes him do the Batusi.

While Damian is in the background hacking and slashing goons with reckless abandon, of course. :o
We kinda got that movie almost 30 years ago. He didn't do the Batusi in it but it certainly had the spirit.

When you really think about it, in the '90s we had big screen adaptations of The Flintstones, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Brady Bunch, etc. Is it really that farfetched to consider Batman and Robin as more of an adaptation of the '60s TV show? :o

The Brady Bunch I give a pass cause that one was more or less a parody, as was the sequel. So, those I do think are exactly what they wanted to be.

I have never seen the old Superboy show, so I opted to watch the 1st episode a few moments ago. Overall, pretty standard network TV stuff, but man....that actor that plays Lex Luthor. Oof, he was awful
I always gave him a bit of a pass.
To be fair,
He was playing a version of. Lex who was Superaged from a teenager to an older version of Lex in a matter of seconds.
