I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Flipping through the channels, and I am reminded, why should I be interested in FF when The Incredibles exist?
“Why should I be interested in___when___exists?”

This sentence could be applied to… literally anything that’s ever been made in the entire history of our world.

Existence of one thing does not preclude the enjoyment of something similar just because it’s not of the same quality. There are many things that I’ve enjoyed that are basically iterating on something else despite not being as good, yet I still enjoy those things nonetheless. My dad has made a lot of meals that are pretty much the gold standard of what I consider those types of meals to be, yet I still like eating something from a restaurant every once in a while.

I Iove E.T., but I also adore The Iron Giant, Lilo and Stich, How to Train Your Dragon and Bumblebee, all of them films with the same or a similar premise. Yet, they all justify their existence in one way or another.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Fantastic Four: First Steps at some point. Will it be as good as The Incredibles? Probably not. But I’ll still probably enjoy it. If I limited myself to watching just one thing of its kind and not tried anything like it, I would’ve probably missed out on a lot of great things.

Finished Andor.

I am shocked Disney let Gilroy make this and gave him so much money for such an artfully crafted, agressively non commercial show. Gilroy must know where the bodies are buried. As someone who's not a Star Wars fan and not at all steeped in its lore, this was a very good show. The main protagonist frustrated me at first and for a while I thought he was the least interesting character on the show but he really grows with you as the series progresses.

Because I'm not fluent in Star Wars lore there would occasionally be expositon scenes where names of places and characters would be dropped and I'd be like "wait, who is that again? Are they important?" but I think the show does a good job of giving you the general gist of things even if you get lost in the complex dialogue sometimes.

A great show about the nuances between "Good" and "Evil" and how there are blurred lines and shades of gray on both sides.

Now I wonder how Rogue One watches with this in hindsight.

I mean, its clear that FF is trying to copy the Incredibles. Just given how uncreative the Marvel method inspires, it just feels like someone took the comment that the Incredibles is the best FF movie too much to heart.

Worse because Andor showed us how much better Rogue One should’ve been. :funny:

I watched Rogue One immediately after the Andor finale and good god, what a steep decline in writing/acting/directing. Only thing that stands up to its quality is the cinematography. I wish Gilroy could just remake Rogue One lol.

Is Tennant a movie star? What realistic shot did he have of being the lead in a Marvel movie?
