I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Whoa is the Hype asking anyone else if they want to “confirm” liking posts now? WTF?

Jessica Jones Season 2

Another stellar season of superhero television under my belt :yay:

I'm sympathetic to the general fan consensus that the second season wasn't as consistently mesmerizing as the first, but to be fair my personal expectations weren't that high. David Tennant would be an almost impossible act to follow in any context, and the novelty factor would obviously be long gone by the time the second season rolled around...

What really matters is that Krysten Ritter has created one of the most fascinating television characters in recent history. It may come across as disingenuous to be worried about spoilers in a series that's been off the air for years, but I'll just say that Jessica's deep draughts of bitterness, regret, paranoia, and fear of abandonment are a lot easier to contextualize after this season's revelations.

What this show is really about is how trauma can never be managed through unhealthy practices, and how it's impossible to outrun anything. A person far wiser than myself once said that folks who think they have nothing left to lose haven't really thought things through. There's always something new to discover, and there will always be other folks we meet along the road who might be willing to help carry some of our load, if we're only willing to give them a chance. Pretty heady stuff for what many 'critics' consider to be a throwaway television genre...

Anyway, Jessica Jones (the character) is too valuable to be banished to guest star status on future seasons of Born Again. As far as I'm concerned, she's just as deserving of her own reboot as Matt Murdock...

One concern I do have is about Trish's trajectory. After the abuse she faced in her youth I'm really hoping to see the character end up in a good place, though I fear I see where her arc is heading. Hope I'm wrong...

Next up: Jessica Jones Season 3

Got another fan of season 2, hell yeah.
There are dozens of us.....DOZENS!!!
Fine, universe, I’ll watch Jessica Jones season 2.* :o

*Eventually.

I think the shows need scaled back more than the movies. Just start making better movies with a more clear vision and ideally things should go up

I would be fine if Marvel completely stopped doing Disney Plus shows. Or just doing one a year in between their movie releases.

Or simply focusing more on animated shows like X-Men 97 or that Spider-Man show.

There is no reason for Marvel TV shows to be as expensive as they are. But, because you have to have everything fit, the shows have to look "movie quality" (how good a Marvel movie actually looks is a debate for another time). The CW thrived with super cheap shows.

They could make standalone TV shows like DC did at first, rather than "everything is connected". Runaways and Cloak & Dagger were effectively standalone, anyway.

I don't know if more content has anything to do with their pitfalls lately, though. I don't know why Thunderbolts* underperformed. They weren't terribly pre-established, but the Guardians of the Galaxy was unknown and still sold.
