I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I'm still waiting on Quentin to return my calls. My shoe size is 13.5! Put me in, coach! :o

So THAT’S why they slide into your DMs. :sneeze:

There is a difference between being outspoken and having strong politics. If you're specifically picking a black artist, why not Shaka King, Regina King, or Cord Jefferson? Those that don't play to the establishment That's what makes Coogler stand out. He doesn't do that. He actually writes Killmonger. I shudder at the idea of DuVernay's Magneto.

I don't have a "dream" X-Men director. But I'd most likely prefer someone from the LGBTQIA+ community, as the general vibe of the group has fit that struggle over the last 40ish year. So give me Emma Seligman. They already proved they can handle a bunch of crazy kids in a school with an annoying jock as the #1 student, while keeping the human aspect at it's core.
If you're interested in who I'm "specifically picking," the list is on page 847.

X-Men shouldn't be liberal. They're the X-Men. Where Malcolm X not only has a point, he's right. But if the argument is they should be, they already hired a middle aged white guy who proved he can do one of these movies.

I found Thunderbolts far more emotionally affecting then anything DuVernay has done. And her experience and resume are not good for X-Men. Proven by her one attempt at trying something like it.

It is also important to remember, that the MLK vs Malcom X feud, one that seems to give white people comfort of whitewashing the civil rights movement, was a lie created by a mistaken article.

And I honestly don't expect people to fully understand my fear of X-men, which has been one since Feige was clearly bending the knee to the CCP, but the subtle difference between fighting to be acepted as yourself, vs fighting to be part of the accepted group, is subtle, and one where I expect unconcious bias' to show up.

I think that is why I liked Krakoa, along with getting rid of perpetual extinction storylines. Granted, Hickman himself, when setting up Krakoa, didn't fully grasp that idea, along with a lot of the early Krakoa writers room. But writers were working on getting better with it.

Very true. And one so many minorities fight with. Showing that you're worthy of being a part of the in group is the path of least resistance, which leaves one perpetually in the closet and also sets up your fellow minorities for pain.

Reddit seems to think Intergang were the original villains of the Black Adam movie to establish more Darkseid connections in the DCEU.

Black Adam was in development for a decade, so its certainly possible there was a draft of the script that had tie-ins to the Darkseid storyline Snyder was planning to do with Justice League.

I am curious about the implications of Marvel stopping the Marvel Assembled stuff. I mean, it can't be that hard or expensive to make.

The X-Men reflects the struggle of many oppressed groups, and the queer community is of course one of them. One they took/take a lot of inspiration from.

But Kevin Feige and co would rather "devour feculence", as Milchick would say, before having a queer voice in the MCU.

Whatever concept of diversity they have, does not include us. Disney forbidding queer stories are not even news anymore, it's just another day. It doesn't shock or outrage people. Just a niche.

I'm sure with or without proper queer representation, the MCU X-Men will be highly successful. But for me, a queerless X-Men will taste nothing but dishonesty.

They got Shea Coulee playing a non-binary former drag queen in Ironheart, that's... not nothing

And who knows, hopefully the current political environment will allow Marvel to take some bigger swings on the messaging front

I get the trepidation about having a white guy directing (possibly straight but we don't actually know that), but Schreier did well on his first "Marvel movie with a message" So I'm willing to give him a shot. And as a Jewish person, he's not completely unfamiliar with discrimination anyway.

Wait a minute! When did Snyder confirm the Robin who The Joker attacked was Dick?

I want to say like 2018 area? It was post JL theatrical release and pre Snyder Cut, and one of his social media posts for attention

Hour long interview with Gunn about Superman and the DCU:

Shea is not a creative voice. The only queer creators they had was in the animation side. Not on the cinematic side.

We don't know yet how Shea's character will be represented. And honestly part of the problem is the mentality that we need to be satisfied with crumbs of representation.

Marvel is extremely far behind and I'm done thinking something like Shea's character in Ironheart will be a significant step.
