I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Bruh.

Holland Spidey was cool with the bodega owner and ordered chop cheeses. Garfield couldn’t lace his boots. :sneeze:

Homecoming did so many things right until they shoved in the Tony Stark angle. I need the next Peter Parker to be from Flushing or Jamaica with some timbs while listening to the Kid Mero podcast. :o

Bruv, all of this.

And how about we actually film on location too. If Daredevil can do it, I don’t see why Spidey and the FF have to film in London. Especially when all of them are the NEW YAAWKIEST of all the New Yorkers.

Come on Feige. :sneeze:

This is why the ending of NWH encouraged me. There was a promise of less Iron Spider and more a traditional Spider-Man. Which, Sony has been messing with and who the hell knows what we are getting other than Sadie Sink is....someone and Punisher is in it.

The 3rd act needs to be set in MSG during the Knicks finals.

The upstate compound and Stark Tower were cool, but I’m still upset we never got a proper Avengers Mansion. And then the Baxter Building is going to be weird since it’s in an alternate universe…

They just better go all out in the Sacred Timeline with a big ass 4 in the skyline when they do Four Freedoms Plaza. :o

Ironheart social embargo is lifting tonight, and reviews come tomorrow. Oh, and half the show apparently drops on Wednesday. It's time to get mediocre with Disney Plus, an annual tradition.

Isn't this why Miles Morales was created? :o

The actors I'd rank Garfield, Holland, Maguire. The characters (and overall film series) I'd rank TASM, Raimi, and MCU. I think Marvel gave Holland very little to work with.

Not entirely on topic and not to pick fights, but I feel like I don't even need to watch Thunderbolts to know it won't affect me the way When They See Us did lol
There is a big difference between subject matter and storytelling. Thunderbolts take on depression and the self-loathing nature of it did far more for me then anything Ava has done. She's a very dry storyteller who preaches rather then tells a story, which is exactly why I wouldn't want her for any superhero property. That said, I haven't watched that miniseries. Her movies made it clear it probably wouldn't vibe with it.

Thunderbolts is moving, for an MCU film, and the action is a lot more engaging than what the franchise usually gives us, but it remains to be seen how Schreier handles X-Men. I'm more optimistic than the reliably bitter Beau DeMayo :funny:

From Twitter:

"Oh, look, only at
@MarvelStudios
with its plantation country club vibes can you direct a decent film that doesn’t break even at the box office and land this gig.

Oh to fit a certain demographic in Hollywood and just fail upwards 🙄

ZERO interest in seeing what him and another mediocre fail-upwards come up with this. At least we know we’re getting Igers version of X-Men that has zero authentic exploration of the core themes of #xmen.

Like this is ****ing pathetic choice."

Well more power to you, but I definitely disagree about her storytelling abilities. Her handling of the story of that series is so deeply effective. That isn't an easy story to "dramatize" without becoming gratuitously bleak. Her documentary 13th also showcases her ability to craft a story through the real life experiences of people under oppression and how systems alter themselves in order to keep their oppressive power. X-Men is an IP that would benefit greatly from that view point imo.

I haven't seen Thunderbolts yet so I won't speak on it. But left to her own devices, she could definitely handle X-Men and I'd be far more interested in her voice on it than the guy they got. And I'd easily put When They See Us over Beef since that's a bit of an equal playing field. Though I wasn't as big on Beef as most.

I am confused by the fail up for Schreier. His movie reviewed really well. You can't blame him for any theoretical box office issues. That's down to the studio, who setup the dynamics it entered the marketplace with. He did his job.

This does not mean I think X-Men will be good. I expect it to be micro managed to hell and back.

If you are dramatizing real life events that are in fact gratuitously bleak, probably needs to be there.

X-Men needs someone who understands themes and how to craft a blockbuster built around action entertainment. That's why Coogler and Peele can make mid sized and big budget successes. They make fun, interesting, engaging characters, and then put them and the audience through the ringer.

Haven't watched Beef either. No real plans to.

I look forward to him spouting what his season 2 looked like, and having the fans turn on him. I know the Apocalypse story he was drawing from. There is no polishing that turd.
