I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

She's (and looks) a bit old for Andrea Beaumont, compared to Pattinson who still looks like he's in his early 30s.

In Mask of the Phantasm, they set you up to think Andrea's father is Phantasm. Then BAM, he's actually dead and it's Andrea the whole time.

What if Reeves flips that? Suppose we're led to believe Andrea's father is dead from the get-go, but he's actually alive and is in fact the Phantasm? Faked his death to escape scrutiny from the Court of Owls. Andrea goes after the Court publicly while her dad takes them out behind the scenes. Father/daughter crime duo.

Okay she absolutely does not lol. Pattinson is clearly a forty year old man in his most recent movie. An amazing one, but it’s crazy talk to say Scarlett looks older than him. She is the correct age if they do the Phantasm backstory.

I kind of agree. Scarjo feels a bit "off type" from the type of casting Reeves did in The Batman. Not super psyched on it, but open to the possibility of it being a great fit for a particular role.
I actually wouldn't go that far, it's literally just the Marvel **** that trips me up. I need to get over myself lmao.

My theory rn is Vicki Vale with influence from Telltale's twist. She is Edward Elliot's daughter, she went on to become a reporter like him. I imagine her as a Gone Girl type manipulator, who gets close to Bruce. For most of the film she'd appear as just a nosey reporter trying to get a story (potentially like in the comics where she wants to prove Bruce is Batman), but the ultimate reveal is that her plans are far more nefarious.

Different beauty standards for men and women kicking in.

Sure, but it did way below the previous movies, had absolutely no cultural impact, and no sequel has been officially announced yet, so it was not quite a roaring success like ScarJo might have wanted.
It lost all it's money in China. All the other territories were flat. That it did so was a big accomplishment considering what happened with the last one. They are most certainly doing a sequel.

Honestly, I’m all about this news drop in as far as it gives us things to theorize about/an idea of who might be in the movie, but until I see Matt post a gif, I’m not giving too much thought to Scarlett herself.

She could easily end up being another Jonah Hill.

Andrea Beaumont returning to Gotham to infiltrate the Count, then hunting them down as Phantasm (or Talon) in vengeance for her father’s murder could be a good follow-up story; and it would serve as a parallel to Bruce’s arc—just the “what-if” darker path.

Throw in Harvey Dent & Lincoln March as red herrings
They're going to mispronounce her name as An-dree-uh and it will drive fans crazy. :o

Never would have guessed scarlett would be someone on matt’s radar to cast in this but she’s certainly a very talented actress and if she is indeed playing andrea, i have to admit she really is a great choice. I don’t even have to stretch my imagination too far to picture her in that role. And she does have that sort of old school hollywood femme fatale vibe that andrea has in the animated movie.

Really really hoping this movie is a phantasm/two face story set during winter. That would be peak.

Wow, I'm late the party in terms of the Scarlett Johansson news, but I'm very happy with this development.

I've been a fan of hers since Lost In Translation, and she was great in Marriage Story .

I think she'd be great as The Phantasm , or any number of characters .

I can't wait to see her act opposite Robert Pattinson.

I really like ScarJo, always found her pretty charismatic, and even though I prefer less recognizable faces in this kind of film, I'd be happy to see her join the cast.

However, while I'd love it to be true, it seems to me that we talked about Phantasm way too much in the last few pages for it to happen now... :funny:

I trust in Reeves, but I hope we'll see some more indie actors. The first movie screams indie-noir from the cast.
