I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

He says that bull**** because he sees theatrical as a threat to his business.

It’s very convenient to talk a big game about how people prefer to watch movies at home when your entire business model rests on flooding the market with mostly crap that you’d never pay to see in a theater.

Saying long theater runs of movies is "anti-consumer" while continuing to raise the price of your streaming service and locking access to movies out of lower tiers is certainly a choice.

I don't think Ted views movie theaters as an outdated model at all. And he sure as **** doesn't actually believe he's saving Hollywood.

I think the truth is simply this: streaming is addictive, and Netflix is aiming to keep people in their homes and binging content on its platform.

I wonder if this means Reeves might end this on a long-form Batman series rather than another movie like he originally wanted; maybe they'd even stick with Messerschmidt given the obvious.

In other words, Ted is a drug dealer.

Yup. Not only that but he realized early on people are too lazy to cancel services as long as changes happen slowly over time. The "boiling a frog" allegory...

So he is a fascist drug dealer.

i really don't mind penguin continuing, it could even morph into a sort ot a hub show (name recognition helps it and they can fit dozen characters in it). we don't necessarily need a "Two-Face" show.

If they are going to do a season two of Penguin, they need to make it about him running for Mayor of Gotham and removing Bella Reál. The first season was about him rising to power from a low level criminal to taking the top spot. You gotta take that to the next level. Or else there is no progression or arc for Oz.

Meh. I mean if we get it, fine. Though it would kind of feel like they’re making Penguin just as (if not more) important than Batman. We know Penguin’s origin now and the show was a massive hit, but I wouldn’t waste a huge opportunity to expand the story even further with a different character just to milk it. The Penguin show is perfect as is.

I agree. It was like a well written mobster show.

Catwoman + Big Bad Harv + Arkham + GCPD shows.
I'm thirsty.

Anyway, do you think that could be any strikes after Netflix/WB deal?
Any delays for us? I know it's a pivotal moment for cinema, but I would riot!!!

I know we want all the things from Matt Reeves, but how much "content" can he generate before things become watered down and he's spread too thin? He's just one man, after all.

All we need more from this universe is a Catwoman spin-off. Use the Brubaker run as inspiration—plenty of space for the GCPD to figure in.

Same with a The Penguin Season 2 if it happens—with Sofia locked up, it’d be great for Oz’s main antagonist this time be Jeffrey Wright’s Gordon (along with Batman cameos & finale full appearance). Introduce Sarah Essen & Gordon’s family life. Maybe Oz, not Joker, kills Sarah—so Gordon’s win at the end of the season is not without tragedy.

Less is more. Catwoman spinoff is the only thing that'd really interest me and even then that's just fanboy brain talking.
I'd argue a Sel/Sofia duo spinoff show would make perfect sense as a followup to where Sofia finished her story in Penguin Season 1. It's not absolutely necessary, for the movie side of things, but I do think it'd be a great thing to see for those who did watch Penguin

I’m not hugely interested in seeing more of Sofia to begin with. Great performance, but her characters survival just felt like lazy sequel bait and wouldn’t surprise me if it was a late rewrite once they saw what they had in Cristin. Sofia Falcone revenge tour story is the most saucesless, fan pandering thing they could do in this universe and I strongly suspect that’s where her story is going.
