I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I know we want all the things from Matt Reeves, but how much "content" can he generate before things become watered down and he's spread too thin? He's just one man, after all.
Matt is one man, but he’s one man backed by a brilliant team that understands his vision as well. I wouldn’t necessarily go crazy and ask for 5-6 other shows that get multiple seasons. Matt wants Batman to be the major focus in his saga and I absolutely agree with that. I wouldn’t want to overshadow him.

What I would suggest is to use characters from the films to expand upon, just like what was done with Penguin. That way it’s not like they just pulled a villain out of the hat and we’re left wanting that villain on film and it never happens. This is why a Catwoman+Sofia series makes sense. Though, I’m also excited about the characters in the next film and if one of them would be great to build a series on.

It would be nice to have the Batman’s presence to be a bit more prominent in the next show they decide to make though. I’ve always loved the idea of a show from the villains perspective and have Batman portrayed as a sort of entity or a horrifying presence in the shadows. Much like Batman’s opening in the film, but drawn out through to the final episode of a series where he finally emerges to take that villain down.

If they are going to do a season two of Penguin, they need to make it about him running for Mayor of Gotham and removing Bella Reál. The first season was about him rising to power from a low level criminal to taking the top spot. You gotta take that to the next level. Or else there is no progression or arc for Oz.
I dont think Reál is gonna be alive by the end of Part II tbh

I think this definitely puts his bat universe back on the table. I assume it stalled out because Zaslav wasn't interested in streaming movies.

We know he was taking pitches for solo movies and tv series. I would love for Reeves to oversee this as he seemed to be willing to do it before. You also don't need to make multiple seasons, but Batman's villains have a lot of material to pull from to craft something special.

I’m not hugely interested in seeing more of Sofia to begin with. Great performance, but her characters survival just felt like lazy sequel bait and wouldn’t surprise me if it was a late rewrite once they saw what they had in Cristin. Sofia Falcone revenge tour story is the most saucesless, fan pandering thing they could do in this universe and I strongly suspect that’s where her story is going.
That's definitely the most predictable story to be told, but it's hardly like the overall story told in The Batman was a predictable one either with regards to character arcs. I don't necessarily see why Sofia/Sel would be any different in that regard

Well, this is obviously totally just my own personal taste/opinion and recognize I'm in an extreme minority here, the difference is The Batman is mostly well-written and dramatically effective while the Sofia stuff in The Penguin is dead on the page and solely carried by her acting lol. That Arkham episode is absolutely goddamn rank, imo, and there are so many big moments overall that I just find kind of embarrassingly silly but not in a fun way. Some of the gangland stuff is just pure Netflix Marvel and not in a flattering manner, especially because the show fronts like its an actual old school HBO crime drama when it is absolutely something much schlockier and goofier.

Obligatory caveat that I love a few episodes almost in their entirety and think Penguin begins and ends incredibly strong. It's a good show!

Rewatching the Penguin now Episode 4 (Arkham episode) It wasn't as bad as I remember, the first 3 Episodes are fantastic but 5,6 are kinda lame, probably finish it sometime next week but yeah overall it's still great television.

As far as spin-offs I think someone asked Mattson if he had any ideas for other heroes in the Reevesverse (pardon if I misremembered the exact question) but he said Yes, so maybe that could happen? Penguin Mayoral run in Season 2 is the definite way to go but I don't mind Bella and Id like to see her fleshed out more, there's not many "Good" guys around and maybe she's part of Reeves overall plan for trilogy.

The GCPD and Arkham spin-offs being back on the table would be great! And ever since seeing that Swaybox Animation reel I've really wanted an Animated short film in this Universe, something a little stylistic but still Reeves and Pattinson, but that's more something I think could have been not something that still will happen.

Something animated would be hype.
