I'm writing a personal statement for universities.

Don't mention that you spend 14 hours a day here.

Don't write what you think they want to hear.
Don't be afraid; you know yourself better than anyone else. You're an expert.

To be serious I can remember doing mine.

The main aim is to show how your real life experiences, choice of subjects at school, outside interests and work experience prove your commitment and interest for your chosen course and also how you can personally contribute to the university (sports/music/societies you might join etc).

I kind of left it to last minute...but I've had other things to settle..

Yeah. Being modest doesn't score you anything. Except for maybe respect. I learned the hard way. :(

I've been looking at websites, on how to write a personal statement, but some of you guys would know the hard way.

You know, being cool socialable types that are all smart, getting laid and know where it's at. ;)

If you need help with topic, write about how you overcome a challenge, obstacle, hardship in your life.....or write about some lesson you learned about life that has affected your philosophical outlook on life.

Then have your teachers proofread.

Cover your hand in ink slap it on a white bit of paper, and boom your in

Make sure you include lots of extracurricular activities and community service. It helps if you mention what your future career will do for the community. Don't lie, but use phrasing that makes your accomplishments sound as awesome as possible.

It's really not hard. I wrote the same essay for every university that I applied to, with the necessary tweaking depending on the subject they wanted for the paper. I got accepted to every one.

go check out these books from the library or get them from a book store. They helped me out.

PErfect Personal Essays
Graduate admission essays
How to write a winning personal statement

The ones I listed are specifically for graduate admission, but there are otehr ones also. There are a bunch of these type of books, which include tips on what to include and many samples from other students.

good advice guys - its making me want to write mine- must surpress the urge

I always tried personailzing my essays. It makes it a lot easier to write. And the one thing about essays, is it's most of the time bullsh'ting.
