Superman Returns IMAX 3D Experience

If they have it in Vegas I will see it on Imax in July
They have one at the Luxor. I caught Spidey 2 there, but they were kinda picky with their showings. It was pretty much limited to one per day. Hope you get to check it out there.

Their setup is weird. They lock this bar over you (like an amusement park ride) when the movie starts. It sucks if you have to go pee. :( :D

Hey all, I live like 10 minutes away from an IMAX. I was doing some research on them and I was wondering do you need to pre-purchase tickets for an IMAX film or can you just show up and buy a ticket moments before the film like a normal theatre? Thanx for any help.
At all the ones I've been to, you can do either. Usually, the theatre just has an IMAX screen among its regular theatre setups, though I've seen a few where it's just the one IMAX screen. I like to pre-purchase, 'cause I can't stand lines and the IMAX near me gives assigned seating when you buy. I like to pick where I sit. Further back is better. You don't wanna be too close to all that screen. Your best bet is just to call the theatre and see if they're doing pre-sales. Some people have already gotten ther tickets for Supes.

Hey thanks alot man I had no idea about assigned seats and stuff. I'll definatly be giving them a call. Thanks alot.

No prob. If the seating is assigned, they'll probably have a seating chart you can check out. If it's just random seating, plan on getting there early on premiere night, so you can pick what you want.

Yep, Luxor the one I went to see when Spider-Man 2 and I NEVER drink anything when I go see a movie there :D also you ever look down while the others sit? I noticed alot of ladies were wearing thongs and I had a few nice views :O

There were a few nice views like that from what I remember, but anything before the movie started is clouded by the vertigo. Stupid steep stadium seating!

Yes folks, that's a fine example of alliteration. :D

About 3D being gimmicky- that's when the movie was based around the 3D.

Superman Returns didn't know it was going to be 3D until close to finish shooting or during post-production sometime.

Thus, the 3D was added. The film wasn't built around it. Thus it's not a gimmick-

Notice:

Jaws 3D
Spy Kids 3D

Now if you look at a film like Polar Express, recent 3D film built around story and not gimmicks- you'd notice that 3D has come a LONG way since then.

Notice: Matt- you made somewhat of a good point. But, you are missing the extended details surrounding those films. Back in the day those films were filmed with 3D effects in mind. It wasn't planned like your everyday movie, it was a gimmick- especially with third films in a trilogy: Jaws3D, Spy Kids 3D, Amityville 3D. From day one those films knew that they were going to be made into 3D, thus it was much more about making it a gimmick. Now, that has NOTHING to do with SR or the 3D technology that is coming out now. Thus, while you made a good point about older 3D movies- you have to pay attention to one crucial facts: those 3D films that you mentioned were made to be a gimmick.

Now if you look at a film like Superman Returns, the film itself is not a gimmick. The 3D was added either at the very end of the shoot or sometime during post production... not before then. Thus, the movie itself is going to be phenomenal. More than likely 4/4 stars by alot of critics. Now, you take that and you add 3D ontop of it and you've got a kick ass movie experience. Because the movie itself is not a gimmick. The 3D was added to an already great movie.

Back in the day 3D movies were made just for 3D. What makes the new technology and new vision towards 3D so great is that you can take an already great film and make it a 3D experience. For instance, Star Wars films are in the process of becoming 3D. King Kong, don't know if it is still being worked on though, is being made into 3D. It is no longer a gimmick and filmed with the idea of having it be 3D. It's adding another layer ontop of it.

CGI films have been known to transfer to 3D much easier, note: Polar Express & a whole line up of CGI 3D films in the works in which the 3D is added just to complement the film itself.

Now, live action films are gradually beginning to do the same. Thus, 3D is no longer just a gimmick that a film is shot and wrote around.... but, much rather have the 3D come in after an already great film is made.

you will enjoy it!

i saw Spider-Man 2 on Imax....omg, it was amazing. i could see the pores on Tobey Maguires face!!! hehe

but seriously...the screen is so huge that it takes up most of your view. the picture goes almost from one side of your eye to the other...
The last IMAX film I saw was Deep Sea 3D...so beautiful. 3D at IMAX is amazing and so goregeous....its not like the crappy 3D with blue and red because they use high tech infared glasses

And I remember seeing peoples pores in my past expiriances at IMAX, a very cool place

You guys are getting me pumped about going to see this thing in imax. And i am glad i have my tickets already reserved woo hoo

sweet! i was hoping it wasn't the blue/red version. since it's using infrared does that mean we'll see a change in color for the 3d scenes? just wondering. also...did the glasses look like these...

It looked like the top one...in fact it is the top one

My IMAX is 20 minutes away, just bought my tickets this evening. I dunno about the 3D--its never worked for me. At all. Maybe this will be different. I plan on seeing the movie "straight" first, then I'll go back and use the glasses . . . unless you have to wear the glasses, or the film will look weird without them? Of course, if it really doesnt work its not like I'm missing out--it'll be just like a regular IMAX. My tickets was $8. College discount b/c its on a Tuesday!!

How soon do you guys plan on lining up? 4 hours early? 5? 6? I'm debating whether to get there at five or six in the afternoon for the ten o'clock showing on the 27th. Even then, there'll probably be a line. I've been officially designated the "line holder" for three other people, since they have to be at work! Ah well . . . it'll be worth it.

What movie did you watch that didnt work!?..your glasses probably ran out of baterry or something, you shouldve asked for new ones...Id never pay extra money on a ticket to watch 3D and not get my 3D

I definately have to see it in IMAX 3-D now, just after seeing those glasses!! Seeing it at the IMAX will be great in itself, but the 3D scenes will be spectacular.

15 minute train ride, then a 5 minute walk.
