The saying goes, "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery".

To that end, do you think directors who made movies that are very similat to other movies are actually paying an homage to the director the movie is a copy of?

More specifically:

-Is Danny Boyle (the director of "28 Days Later") a fan of Boris Sagal (the director of "The Omega Man")?

-Is Frank Coraci (the director of Click") a fan of R.L. Stine?

-Is James Gunn (the writer/director of "Slither") a fan of Fred Dekker (the writer/director of "Night of the Creeps")?

-Is Eli Roth (the director of "Hostel") a fan of Rob Zombie (the director of "House of 1000 Corpses")?

-Is Scott Derrickson (the director of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose") a fan of William Friedkin (the director of "The Exorcist")?

-Are the Wayan Brothers fans of Chuck Jones?

-Is Steven Spielberg (the director of "War of the Worlds") a fan of M. Night Shyamalan (the director of "Signs")?

-Is Steve "Spaz" Williams (the director of "The Wild") a fan of Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath (the directors of "Madagascar")?

-Is Andrew Adamson (the director of "The Chronicles of Narnia") a fan of Peter Jackson 8the director of "The Lord of the Rings")?

Quentin Tarantino.

I mean, God bless him, but he's never had an original thought in his life.

But, then again...who has?

so, in that respect, is Uwe Boll a fan of Ed Wood and Roger Corman?

that reminds me of a line from Entourage.

"This guy's a f***in genius. He's the guy Tarantino is copying next."

"Oh, he must be good. Tarantino only rips off the best."

or something like that... :D

Well both stories are based off the I am Legend story by Richard Matheson.

Funny I don't remember hundred foot tripods running around in Signs. The only thing similar is that they are both alien invasion stories which have been around for years. Look at War of the Worlds by HG Wells written 1898.

Different source material here, both based on books buy guys who were friends and consulted with each not surprising there are similarities in the movies as there are in the books.

Paul W.S. Anderson tries to emulate James Cameron and fails miserably.
