I don't really see how Dmitri Smerdyakov (aka the Chameleon) can be such a menace- true his ability to assume the appearance of another can make him hard to pin down, but it's not as if he's a Skrull or a Dire Wraith!

All I got to say is read the current Chameleon story in ASM...

Yeah... the guy just doesn't put on a mask and assumes identities... he studies people and is a real threat....

:yay:

He'd be more of a threat if he still had his technological morphing abilities. Or even the "if he has a pic of them he can copy their appearance" ability.

Yeah, I have to disagree with this also. This is where the X-Men went wrong all those years ago. Rather than coming up with characters, they just started inventing powers and putting a face to them. There was a time when Wolverine was a really cool character. Then they decided he should be able to physically survive (literally) anything. And he is what he is today, a caricature.

This one Chameleon story is much more interesting than anything they've done with Mystique in the last 20 years. And power wise, she kicks his ass. But it's all in how you tell the story.

I like the talent side of his latest appearance. Not just physically duplicating a person's appearance, but also their mannerisms etc. Makes him a very cool assassin for hire. But his reduced ability to actually copy a persons look in the first place is severely low tech compared to past appearances, which makes it about the fifth retcon for the character to have, which bothers me a little

When was the last time he actually showed up before this?

What was he doing during Civil War? I dont remember that at all.

Right after the unmasking. Chameleon got electro, will o wisp and the molten man to help him take down Pete while he went after aunt may, though may was awesome in that.

If you haven't read MODOK's 11 go get it right now, it's chock full of awesomeness start to finish. You'll ****ing love MODOK after this.

Chameleon is a major threat not just cause he can dupe things, he's a freaking master spy with that training. People tend to think the power is the thing but other aspects like training and smarts go a long way to counteract powers. Personally I think chamy would beat mystique down cause while she'd just use her superior powers chamy would have an actual strategy to take her down. It would probably go something like mystique beats chamy down only to find out it wasn't him to begin with and now she's locked in a blast furnace.

He's like mysterio in the way that in a direct fight not much of a threat but if he comes at you sideways he'll do all sorts of damage and leave scotfree.

Reading all this makes me love Chameleon even more :) I just love villains who mess with heroes' minds.
