Forget Nolan. It amuses me when many on the hype create these little director cults... ha ha ha. I wonder to myself: what have these directors done to deserve their own little internet groups?

I was bored, as I usually am here at the computer and decided to go on youtube to remind myself of what a great director really is. The first search term that came to me was of course the director I grew up admiring, Steven Spielberg. The man is a living legend behind the lens no matter how crappy war of the world was.

Usually with the tag-team combination of williams and Spielberg, we were guranteed to settle for no less than greatness. There's a quality spielberg always tried to achieve with his films that as a kid I knew was beyond anything average or done a million times in the past. The berg to me, always aimed for the STARS with his films, going beyond man's mundane existence into levels of imagination we've never seen, ever.

This thread is my salute to you, Spielberg. You kick all these other director's asses.

Here's some of the stuff I've been watching: :woot:

Just watched ET, and I was amazed how well it portrayed the aspects of youth, that curiousity about everything, that element of escape through action figures and games, and that carefree nature of coming home from school, getting together with friends and venturing the neighborhood. No other film has captured that.

Before I watched Close Encounters, and I loved that movie beyond description. Same with Jaws.

But lets not forget the great John Williams, who provides 50% of the emotional impact through his immortal and impeccable masterpieces of film score. He is the Mozart or Beethoven of film music.

Its no question that spielberg is one of the greats. e.t. is a masterwork.

I look at some of the great stuff Spielberg has done, & I can't help but wonder. What the heck happened? Did he just get tired of doing great fantasy movies, or what? I mean War of the Worlds, & Minority Report don't really hold up to multiple viewings.

I am really hoping that he Directs JP4. Maybe that will ignite his youth juice.

Spielberg is one of my favorite directors ever... not sure what that has to do with Nolan, but okay. Really liked E.T, I grew up with that film.

please, Minority Report was awesome and WOTW was great except for the crappy ending. The only director that never fails IMO

Spielberg is great and one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood, I respect him and I love his movies.

But i just think it's time to give chance new directors of new generation to show their best.

Still, Spielberg will always stay as #1.

BTW, 3 minths ago he celebrated his 60th birthday

He meant because we see all of these posters with I.N.W.T. in their sigs, when most of them probably never saw Insomnia, The Prestige, or Memento.

Spielberg is a living legend .... on form he is the best.

As far as summer event movies go he did hit a wall after Jurassic Park but the quality still remains.

I've loved everything Spielberg has done.
Even War of the Worlds. I still get chills when the first Tripod rises from the ground.
Spielberg worked on parts of Star Wars Episode III, and I think most of the final duel was taken from his vision.
I wish the Director's Guild would have let him direct Return of the Jedi. :csad:

Nolan, Singer, Story, Rattner. None hold a candle up to Spielberg.

Few directors alive can hold a candle to Spielberg.

That said, I haven't a clue why I_Hate_U_All had to mention Nolan in this thread. I'm a very big fan of all of Nolan's films, but that doesn't impact what I think of Spielberg in the slightest.

Lol

Was just naming recent comic book directors

NO

He should direct The Adventures of Ant Man and Roach boy

In all seriousness, Spielberg has said he has no interest on taking on a comic book film. He's not the kind of guy who follows trends, he'd prefer to create his own.
