Pretty much easy to explain: no actual origin of this Joker was revealed, in either shape or form, in The Dark Knight. But no one will stop wondering who was this man who became the Joker, so how about we take a stab at it? In my own creativeness, who do you think this man was before the Joker; who he was, what he became, and how he came to be?

One day a vagrant walked into Gotham and decided to take it.

Crazy guy who is very smart. Tortured animals as a kid and always had homicidal impulses. Maybe he was picked on and developed an anti-social personality, one disconnected with society. Maybe he witnessed something terrible at a young age that made him emotionally detached... Maybe he was born that way...

Became a serial killer of some sort before Batman arrives, he's inspired by Batman and decides that he's going to be Batman's polar opposite -- he's not a dark, brooding Bat fighting for order and justice, he's a bright, colorful clown fighting for chaos and anarchy. He put intensive planning into his schemes and takes pride in his abilities...

Someone who went through a real messed up childhood and finally just snapped and began a life of crime. After getting bored with himself, he decides to recreate himself and go to Gotham because he's heard about "The Bat".

The Joker is so smart, he's insane.

I imagine he was someone who just had a very tragic life, and each individual event stripped more and more of his sanity away.

i would hate the fact that something like being abused or something would create him , im sure he had a hardlife and everything but even has a kid i doubt he cared , he was the joker the second he was born , the scars just escalated everything , whether he did them or not

I don't like the theory he was born as The Joker.

I like more that the film seems to make it so that anyone could become like him. We're all "one bad day" away. Rather than simply being born bad, I think it's way more interesting that anyone could become him. It just takes the right push.

Ya I think the abused theory is good for a mere serial Killer. The Joker is beyond abuse, and born out of irony and tragedy.

im gonna go ahead and suggest a vat of chemicals

In my mind, I don't know, I'll never know, I'm not supposed to know...and ultimately, I don't really care.

I honestly like the idea of him just being truely insane. Maybe he just had a bad day *hint The Killing Joker hint*. Maybe he had alot of trauma. We will probably never know. Don't forget he was about to tell Batman at the end. But they never have been the true story. I remember he said before he was about to tell him, "It's a funny world we live in". Possible hint to his past as a failed comedian?

how is "It's a funny world we live in" related to being a comedian?

Well I want to know why you got that out of that line. Nothing sinister.

Well after he says that he does say "Speaking of it want to know how I got these scars?". It just made me think. It doesn't necessarily mean it but it's just a thought.

He was a common thief, wore a red hooded jacket nicknamed the Red Hood.:cwink: Went into Axis Chemicals to hide running from the cops after knocking off a gas station, then he was cornered. He was on a catwalk, jumped, and hit his face on a railing cutting his face on both sides of his mouth making it look like a permanent smile. He got away but after seeing his scars he lost it, but was always a bit crazy, the scars just sent him over the edge.

Just my way of trying to keep it somewhat traditional.:woot:

There is no origin. That's what makes this character scary. When Bob Kane first conceptualized the character, he wanted him to be a mass murdering clown. You can't give an origin to someone like that. Pure EVIL is BORN.

One day little Joker. Jr woke up and said "Daddy doesn't like me...not. one. bit" so he says to himself "I'm going to upset the established order and **** with Gotham...with war paint!".

Um, actually, when Jerry Robinson first conceptualized the character, he wanted him to be a prankster in a jester suit, and then Bill Finger conceptualized him as a murderous jewel thief. Bob Kane did little more than provide some ideas and a design for the character.

Anyway, in my mind, the Joker's scars have something to do with the mob or a gang. Perhaps a low-level gangster, he stepped on the wrong toes or made the wrong kind of joke about someone's wife, and they gave him his scars and left him for dead.

LOL at the pwnage :funny:

And I share a similar idea, although I'm still not entirely sure whether I believe it was the mob. But I always thought the scars were no accident, and he received them cause he really, REALLY pissed someone off. LOL

He did talk about ripping off Mob dealers in the past, too.

I believe he was a guy who just had one REAL BAD DAY and snapped but Im sure there were underlying issues from his childhood too ..
