I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything. I've found the "Spider-Man" films to be enjoyable on more than one occasion...

But I was just wanting to know the general concensus from fans of the character as to what you find to be lacking in the films.

Why, in your opinion, is the trilogy just not as effective or as strong as it could be?

Because it seems fairly obvious that it's not...

Tobey Maguire and his chunkiness and overacting

2 Killing Venom

3Kirstin Dunst bored

The only one that I can think of right now is Mj not being ike how she was in the comics.

the third movie is what didn't make the trilogy. the writing. it's all about the writing.

Personally, I love these films and I have no gripes about them.

...where's a picture of Sam Raimi's ass when you need it...

My biggest complaint...they should've stopped the franchise after the first movie. Sure, the first film was "okay", but it doesn't compare to Batman Begins or Hellboy or Iron Man. Heck, even X-Men was more enjoyable, imo.

Also...Doc Ock is a just a fat villain with tentacles...and Sandman was just a sympathetic *****ebag...and Venom was pretty much ******ed.

The only two good actors in all three movies were James Franco and Willem Dafoe.

seriously that is what pisses me off. the ppl who didn't like the movies always have to big huge @$$ ***** to those of us who did like the films. get over yourslef u didn't like it and he did. u don't have to be an @SS hole to him because of his opinion.
seriosuly i hate ppl like that!:cmad:

- Too much focus on Peter's romance/obsession with MJ
- Constantly making the villains have a personal connection to Peter
- MJ being abducted in every movie
- The emo hair/dancing in SM-3

Frankly, the only major fault of the Raimi movies is that they set up Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson as "destined immortal lovers" WAY too soon and thus by the third, their relationship had become stale. Unlike mainstream Marvel comics, I am not opposed to Peter marrying or settling down, but he hardly was a "one woman man" all through high school and college. For a nerd, he had a steady stream of girlfriends or admirers. It would have felt more organic had Raimi included more female characters; maybe introduced Gwen in the first movie or had Peter date "Ms. Brant" a little. I understand Hollywood likes to simplify things, but even Dunst was tired of the routine by SM3. SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN is managing to juggle things fine, albeit a series has it's advantages over movies.

That's really the only big flaw I could see. Aside for Spidey losing his mask every 5 seconds after critics complained about "non emotion" in the first one. ;)

But, no matter what quibbles I have, nothing will match the feeling I had in 2002 during and after that movie. It was friggin' epic, man.

I hated girl-next-door version of Mary Jane. Also, Green Goblin was too cartoony supervillain. Oh, and third movie was bad.

I liked the first 2 movies alot.
aldo a MJ recast would be great.
O had problems with the 3e one, but come on evryone heard those reasons like a million times already by other board members.

Why would you talk **** about the first two movies, nothing wrong with them.
now hellboy on the other hand, was a movie that basicly just sucked, alot.

Spider-Man
-The Green Goblin was indeed too cartoony. I always loved how conniving and obsessed Norman was with Peter. He could be disturbing like the Joker, just with super powers. Smacking Harry would have been good too. Before he became the Goblin. Teaming with Spider-Man? Never.
-It was never very intense. I even remember Kirsten saying in the commentary that it was never too scary (such as when the scene quickly cut from the bunker blowing up to the high school graduation.
-People on the bridge throwing stuff at Gobby and getting away with it.
-Gwen should have been kidnapped and killed.
-Oh yeah, and the Goblin trident.

Spider-Man 2
-I didnt think that Otto needed to be married. His obsession with his invention should have been enough. It is also more in character.
-MJ kidnapped again.

Spider-Man 3
-Flint Marko being Ben's real killer. I hate coincidences like that.
-Peter is bonded to a creature that forces you be aggressive, but all Peter does is want more cookies and dance?
-Venom should have been saved for another movie.
-Harry needed a better costume.
-MJ kidnapped. Again.
-Spider-Man Appreciation Festival? Huh? I though NY hated Spidey. He said as much in SM2. True, he did save the city from Ock's machine but how did anyone know that? Plus, that overly happy guy in the crowd gives me the creeps.

Over all Spidey could get away with mocking his enemies without getting annoying if done right. his stalker like obsession with MJ was a bit much.
films aren't being taken seriously enough.
sm3 was garbage, (hate it or love it no offense Spider-manhero your my buddy. :yay: )
from a writer's pov there were too many plot threads and needless characters. alot of plots seemed unresolved (marriage/flint marko escapes) ANOTHER VILLAIN DIES BY HIS OWN HAND. (gobby, ock, venom) black suit Spidey was too campy, (no one remembers the jazz scene? lol) I also feel that there is a whole side of comic Peter not tapped into. when you see batman begins you might think frank miller. but I honestly can't recall Peter ever being obsessed with MJ in any media. the movie was a bit too much of a love story

Peter Parker not growing out of being a nerd.
Mj turning into a beyatch.
very little wise cracks. I mean c'mon what the hell

I sometimes feel like i am the only one who had hardly any problems at all with the Spidey film series. What I honestly, truely did not understand with SM3, is how ppl, say that they hated it it, and always complaned about the same thing yet they completely ignored all the good stuff in the movie, like (no offence to anyone who might have said this or thought this) but it amazes me how ppl say the Black suit is suppose to make spidey aggresive and not "a dancing cookie demanding emo kid" but if ppl would actually pay attention the suit did more than just make him do all of that. the fight in the subway with sandman was a pretty darn aggresive fight. the fight with Harry, he threw a bomb at the guys face!!! it's like how do ppl forget about stuff like that and just end up dwelling on the "negative"???!!!!!!??!!

^^^ Ummmm because this thread is about the faults of the series? lol
Most non Spidey fans didn't know what was going on half the time. you have to consider them too. my mother had no problem watching the dark knight and keeping up. she even reminded me of some plot elements i missed. lol there was waaaaay too much coincidence. (arrival of the symbiote. eddie being able to recognise Pete from too far away. Eddie was a bit underdeveloped he went from dbag to nut job too quickly. ) wonderful job with Harry, but the butler was an idiot. Tobey's face gets too much screen time. Spidey is my fav. character and I'm not a wacked out fan boy. but I predicted the final battle before I saw the movie as far as pete losing his mask and a villain dying goes. Since it has happened twice already. although sm1 had great execution as to why his face was showing. loved the train scene it was cool but a group of people riding a train are not going to be that honest when they can get alot of money for his identity.

The bugle was reduced to a gossip mag. no one took them seriously as far as we can tell.
no one was afraid or blaming Spidey. I mean the guy is currently an avenger and is wanted for Spider tracer killings. (doesn't have to be that graphic)

i really think sony should take a deep look at Spectacular Spider-man. (there own show) and examine what there doing right before making another film. the show is already up there with batman tas and X-men 90s. I haven't heard anyone complain too much about it. even the art style catches on if you sit down and watch it.

yea i knowthis is suppose to be about the faults in the film series, it's just that some of the reasons why ppl didn't like the movies i can't fully understand, like some of the issues ppl have with the film series are SOOOOO small yet they are acting like it's such a huge deal like if the movie isn't 100% the way they want it to be then the world is going to end. and fans seem to forget that the movies are an ADAPTATION of the comics, it's never ever goign to be 100% like the comics, there are ALWAYS gonna be differences, some ppl like, some ppl don't like, we just need to deal with them , accept them, move on and hope for the best with future movies.

lol I understand what you are saying. I'm not telling you what to like and what not to like. Spider-manhero loves SM3. I honestly can't watch it again. but we both respect each others opinions. :yay:.

I know these movies are adaptions. (wouldn't that make me a hypocrite for praising spectacular spiderman? lol)

I may nitpick here and there about sm1 and 2 but they are both really good movies. I am a big Spidey fan like you but I judge from a fair critique. sm3 was a bad movie. not 100 percent bad, but they could have done better.

Spider-man 1:

-Goblin suit. I've seen a concept that looked more organic. Would look way better. Dafoe was perfect as Norman tho.

Spider-man 2:

- I guess this one is overall very cool but I do agree that having MJ kidnapped again is too cliche.

Spider-man 3:

I honestly don't know where to start with this. I'd rather just say the things I liked:
- Good Special effects
- Iconic Church scene done perfectly.

Overall triology:

-Sam did a good job in the first 2 and got pissed off by the rest of the crew in the third one which leaded to uber ****.
-Spidey is known for his sense of humour. Spider-man needed alot more wisecracks. That's what makes it even better to see in an action sequence: Lots of cool moves(the train fight in spidey 2 was awesome) and constant wisecracking by the hero.
- More females in Peter's life. One tone love obsession with MJ is just not good enough for 3 movies. Should had started with Gwen in the first, killing her in the end, and then moving on with MJ for the second.

The faults of the Spider-Man films?

Well, here we go:

Peter Parker being emo...In every movie, from start to finish. From obesessing about Uncle Ben's death to obsessing about Mary Jane...Emo, and it got old really old, really quick. Now I understand human emotion, and grieving for a dear loved one, or needing a gap filled (MJ)...But Good God...Sam Raimi clearly wanted Spider-Man to be Batman by brooding, and being obsessive and moody. THAT is NOT Spider-Man, and seriously, from the guy that did all three Evil Dead films, you think you could get something a little bit more light hearted.

The Goblin...Power Rangers outfits spray painted in a "mystic dream" finish does not concieve badassery, or seriously evil supervillain. It makes them look like an idiot. Concept art had a more hideous and terrifying version, they should have used that.

Mary Jane...Nikki Cox would have been better. Mary Jane is unbelievably hot, I mean seriously...Holy crap, as well as having some redeeming qualities to her. Granted every comic book film adaptation has the main love intrest being a completely condescending ***** (Rachel Dawes, Sue Storm, Mary Jane...) at least before Marvel started employing idiots to write the relationship between Peter and MJ.

The script. Horrid. Not natrual, very forced. No comedy. Spider-Man is fun, light hearted and for GOD'S SAKE HE DOESN'T SQUEAK WHEN HE SCREAMS OR TALK OUT OF A SMALL GAP IN THE SIDE OF HIS MOUTH.

There are too many faults to this movie series, and don't get me started on Venom. They really screwed over a dynamic there. But it's clear to see that Raimi threw a temper tantrum when the idea of Venom was introduced in the script and decided to kill him off just to piss everyone off. Real mature you second rate hack.
