Coming from Rhode Island, people are insane over these two teams. Hell they even made a movie about it, Fever Pitch which saddly isn't that far from the truth. When they beat the Yankees to go on to the World Series, it was like a holiday at my school and there printouts all over school announcing the victory. I was simply curious what people outside the New England area thought of the two teams, and further more if people were that rampant about there home teams.

Anyone else watchign the Pats game todaY?

As a Yankee fan, I'd really rather all the Red Sox dropped dead.
As a Dolphins fan... I could say the same for the Patriots.

Also it's interesting now that the Patriots are a winning team, I remember when I was a kid back when Parcells was coach, and everyone use to ***** and moan every year about how the Patriots suck, haha how things change...

No opinion really, well, I do find it funny how Red Sox fans are able to piss off Yankee fans!

But jah I'm not much of a baseball or football fan. As far as my hometown teams go, I'm all about my beloved F.C. Dallas  :o

Actually in RI, I should mention this that it's like 75% Red Sox fans and there's 25% yankee fans. It's due to the fact that we don't have our own team. So I see fights between the two on a daily basis, actually any red sox and yankee joke has been done to death for me.

Maybe one day huh? I mean the Patriots are supposed to represent all of New England, but the Sox are BOSTON, so perhaps theres a chance that someday RI will have it's own MLB team. How bout the Rhode Island Riveters? I don't know what riveting has to do with Rhode Island, but I like alliteration! lol

Rhode Island is full of italians, we're such a crooked place because of it, could you imagine a baseball team... Picture the 1986 Red Sox's World Series but times ten with the conspiracy theories :D We use to have our own Hockey team does that count for anything :(

I never knew Rhode Island was full of Italians, my impression of it was that its a very WASP-y place.

Far from it... Italians and Irishmen... I'm 75% Italian myself actually... It's a very territorial place to be honest which is funny given the size. There's only like 20 towns and they have like distinct flavors. Narragansett and Newport use to be very Waspy but the Italians and Irish have started infiltrating there.

Well, you do have our minor league teams, the PawSox and Baby Bruins.

The Pawsox, I forgot about them but no one really considers them much of anything :( I mean every Rhode Islander has gone to see the PawSox, but I've never heard of a pawsox's fan.

I like the Patriots only because I like to root for the underdog. I can't get into football anymore. I don't follow baseball at all. I use to like football but working with guys all day everyday being all crazed about it just turned me off. The same for soccer, almost,I like the sport but hanging with people that are too passionate about it really makes me dislike it..
So now I don't follow any local sports, closely. I will keep an eye on the Olympics they seem to be a little more sportsman like. People do get excited but not insane wanting to kick people's ass crazy

I've been to Newport a few times,so resorty, liked it though.

I don't particularly care one way or another, about either team.

Wow, whats it like living somewhere where people actually care about football/soccer, tzarinna? Around here I expect nothing but being made fun of for liking it, lol

Well except from the Mexicans :o

Well it hasn't gotten that big here,DC United,it's popular but far from selling out. The price of admission is pretty low. The last game I went to was the playoffs in '05 and that was a huge turn out. But I think people dragged friends and such a long to fill the stadium. There have been some rowdy folks,I don't get it. The guy I was hanging out with was turning me of to it. So fanatical. I can enjoy the sport without being insane.

There is a high latino population here too.

For baseball, I'm a Cubs fan and there isn't a Cubs/Red Sox rivalry, so I don't care what Boston does.

For football, I'm a Bears fan and there isn't a Bears/Patriots rivalry. I'm also a Steelers, and there is a Steelers/Pats rivalry.

The Red Sox? Eh, they're all right. Before they won it all, I felt some kinsmanship with them given Phildelphia's horrible record at winning anything. But since they've won, they're pretty much just another baseball team to me.

The Patriots are a team I feel like I should like...yet I don't. Tom Brady
s a great quarterback, he's my kind of quarterback. The organization is run spectacularly, and I really have a great deal of respect for the team on all levels. Yet...I'm just not a fan of them.

Thats a good thing about soccer not being hugely popular in the U.S., ticket prices are generally pretty cheap. For example, at Pizza Hut Park(Dallas), even for the MLS cup game the most expensive tickets in the stadium were only $60, compare that to ticket prices at NFL games.

Thats part of the soccer fan culture. Although the U.S. soccer fans really are very, very tame compared to their E.U. counterparts. I mean, its not like we have football firms here(the U.S. is way too uptight for that). There are a few ultra groups, but they aren't that big.

You're in same boat as Ghostrider87 :wow:
He joined the boat later. I've been a fan since conception and birth 28 years ago.

My dad is a Cubs fan and grew up there. He didn't graduate with his high school class cause he always cut class and went to Wrigley to watch a ballgame.

So he had to graduate that August.

Yeah I get that, but I don't need people telling me to be excited.
Hell I made it possible for them to get tickets to some pretty good games and to physically see them. I'm just annoyed. I watch at home occasionally under my own terms and in comfort.

Everyone from St. Louis still hates the red sox. I am indifferent in regards to the patriots. I kind of like them i suppose.
