i'm not surprised that they're changing it. i'm surprised they optioned it at all. it's nothing like all the other comic book movies out there. there is nothing you can compare it to. it's dark, it's twisted, it's foul. i enjoyed the book, but there is no way that book was ever going to be made into a movie. heck, i'm still surprised "Fight Club" was made into a movie, and that's really the closest thing out there you can compare this to.
ultimately, the studio wants another "Spider-Man" or another "Batman," they just don't want to realize that there's only one "Spider-Man" and it's . . . well, "Spider-Man."
even though dark comic adaptations like "Sin City" were a success, it was nowhere near the success that "Spider-Man" was. so they'll grab anything they can and make it a little more marketable. look at the bastardization that was the theatrical release of "Daredevil." that was a studio wanting another light PG-13 flick for the kiddies.
at this point, i'm just trying to imagine how they're going to market, merchandise, and try to make a tie-in book with this. if this movie goes PG-13, are they going to release a "Wanted: The Movie" graphic novel? that would be HI-larious. and sad. very, very sad.
