Inhumans

I should point out it's very Ann Nocenti, which means it can be heavy-handed and weird. But I love the themes of the story very much.

Mike has some great recommendations there and I am definitely going to back up picking up By Right of Birth. It's fantastic!

Loved both Inhumans issues this week!

And the second episode of the Attilan Rising podcast is up! (Attilan rising.wordpress.com might have to scroll a bit.)

December 2016 solitications!
IvX #1
The Uncanny Inhumans #17

January 2017 solitications
The Uncanny Inhumans #18
IvX #2
IvX #3

So Mosaic has been a really awesome read. Highly recommend it. Death of X has been alright but I'm more looking forward to IvX.

Looks like Crystal's RIV crew will have a big part to play in the Monsters Unleashed tie in of Uncanny Inhumans as well. Really looking forward to that!

Attilan Rising Podcast has a new episode up for anyone who listens to it!

It's a good time to be an Inhumans fan. A Black Bolt Solo, a Royal Family team book, and a TV series all announced so far this week. Awesome!

So I didn't read Death of X yet, but did see all the reviews and stuff out there today

So, in what way are the Royal family, specifically Black Bolt and Medusa, not considered amongst the vilest of villains right now?? Cyclops did pretty much nothing to justify him being called evil and all that jazz. The Inhumans unleashed a cloud that killed possibly thousands of people or more, cyclops team dispels the cloud safely, then Medusa has BB 'murder' the guy, and Cyclops is the villain?? I'm just not understanding that.

I guess I should really read the story, but I don't like shellin' out money for poor writing. After this and Death of Wolverine, I'm getting a distinctly 'hack-y' vibe from Charles Soule... like a lil' BMB

Marvel has been on a Cyclops is the devil trip since the twelve storyline. Nothing they have done has really justified the vitriol characters direct at Cyclops though.

When you have characters calling Cyclops a mass murderer or hitler then you at least have to do something to justify that hate. magneto gets less hatred from the superhero community than Cyclops does which is odd when magneto's solo comic showed him going around murdering people.

that's true, I assumed for several years after New X-Men it was just cuz Cyclops was kind of a *****e and noone liked him
But this is definitely the most egregious example of them crapping on him for no reason
I miss Whedon's badass cyclops

Even when Cyclops was a *****e they at least had some justification for it. Seeing a bunch of kids your responsible for blown up by mutant haters in front of your school is enough to push you to the more extreme end of the spectrum. Add mutants coming close to extinction, your dad dying, your mentor lying to you the whole time, a homicidal long lost brother and various other problems I could kind of see why Cyclops took a more proactive position

Admittedly, I haven't been following this story either, but yeah, it doesn't make much sense. That said, Soule CAN write good stories (Daredevil and Uncanny Inhumans have seen great feedback under him, for example) I think the problem here is more of an editorial mandate forcing creators to tell stories to serve an editorial agenda. High quality work doesn't tend to come out of those situations.

How much are you spoiled on the actual plot of what happens? There's some pretty big spoilers I'm not sure you want me to give away.

That being said, the story reads like they planned for a different ending and then caved because they like the characters and didn't want them to go down that path.

I don't think it's his strongest work (nor is it Lemire's, although I'm less familiar with him). I usually recommend you check out She-Hulk, Inhuman, and Uncanny Inhumans. All of which are stronger than this story. Actually, everything I've read by him is stronger than this story and I think his Daredevil falls in the "it's OK" line of things.

So aside from Royals, which is out now. New Warriors and Black Bolt are two more inhumans comics that will come out next month!

Secret Warriors, not New Warriors.

Christopher Priest is also writing a miniseries that features a younger royal family.

March 2017 sales
Ivx 6: 52,811
Prime: 50,422
Uncanny 20: 18,951
Moon Girl 17: 8,273
Mosaic 6: 6,812

I don't like Royals and I don't like the artwork. I miss The Uncanny Inhumans.
Is Secret Warriors worth reading?

Secret Warriors is probably the most "fun" book of the Inhumans. It was certainly far and away the most fun thing related to Secret Empire. It's got great humor, but great heart. I don't know if you read Matthew Rosenberg's Kingpin series, but I thought that showed he's a very talented writer. Javier Garron's art fits perfectly, especially when it comes to comedic timing.

The whole team is an odd fit, but Rosenberg sells it well. I suspect, starting in a tie-in, it's actually got an uphill climb, but I thought the Secret Empire arc helped start the story off in a logical way (plus, the original Secret Warriors were born out of Secret Invasion). The Inhumans books are in a weird place where each book does something different well, so it's hard to say which is the best. With Secret Empire done, I'd recommend checking out the next couple issues and seeing if you like it or picking up a trade for the first set.

Inhumans: Once and Future Kings and Blackbolt are the only Inhumans book I currently read.

Absorbing Man is getting some great characterization in Blackbolt's series.

Once and Future Kings is cool. Great seeing some classic Inhuman characters and I always enjoy the focus on the weird quirks of Inhuman society.

I didn't actually realise the Inhumans had been around for so long, I thought they were introduced in 2012-2013
