I always enjoyed reading what frustrations Peter parker had to vent about his life as he beat the pulp out of his villains.

Here's a way to differentiate this Spider-man from the last two iterations. Introduce monologues.

Imagine the juxtaposition of Spidey beating up a chump like the Shocker while he bickers about his private life. The contrast of what he does and says could be opportunity for a lot of great humor.

Love it :)

I'd really want one.

Ive been wanting one in a Spider-Man movie for a while. I think it would be great, create more opportunity for humor and generally it would be good to hear Spidey's thoughts.

I know that monologues are generally looked down upon in cinema because it's so often used lazily. But it can be great when used well. Martin Scorsese does wonders with it.

The Wolf of Wall Street wouldn't have been nearly as funny if Leonardo Dicaprio wasn't also delivering funny monologue throughout the entire film.

Yes to Inner Monologues, loved 'em in the 90s AS and SSM.

It'd really add a fun, quirky charm to PP/Spidey and if there's one thing to say about the character, it's that he's fun.

should he break the fourth wall, with it not only being a inner monologue, but, him actually talking to the audience?

or with winks and nods kinda jokes to the camera

No, nonono, please no.

no breaking the fourth wall like looking directly/talking directly to the audience.

breaking the fourth wall is Deadpool's gimmick. He needn't go that far.

Yes. I'd love to see this.

Absolutely not. Breaking the fourth wall should be left to someone like Deadpool--there it's a good fit.

It should be like in the 90s cartoon. I really want the monologues, but only in his solo films

I liked how he was always talking to that gargoyle in the TAS

I think they should use any inner monologue sparingly. Maybe it should be more like narration, which is kind of what they've already done in the Spider-Man movies. I don't really want inner monologue during fight scenes.

I love that idea...and not far from something I think Marvel would consider.

I would love it!

"You're always laughing at my jokes.
Bruce, you're one heck of a guy."

It's small things like that that previous Spider-Man films have missed. It's part of Spider-Man's charm. That also sounds like something I can picture Marvel doing with him. I think small moments like that are very much needed. A scene of Spider-Man "talking" to the gargoyle could be humorous and a little sad in combination. "Small moments" like those feel personal and are great to develop the character.

It's a thin line to walk on. On one hand, it could make the film feel personal, interesting and open up for some very funny possibilites. On the other hand, it could ruin the tension of the action scenes. Or could it perhaps raise it? I think the possibilities are greater than the risks, to be honest.

Since the MCU films don't have any inner monologues I would say no to this.

Yes to an inner monologue. It should be done in a similar style to sin city or watchmen, but more sparingly. In the 90's cartoon, Spidey's voice actor actually adjusted his tone so that you could tell what was being said out loud and what was being said inside his head. It was pretty well done in retrospect. I also wouldn't be opposed to Spider-man talking to himself out loud on occasion, and a conversation with Bruce could be cool.

Not during fight scenes? But, that's when it would be used for good contrast. Here Spidey is, engaged in battle and his inner monologue is going on about some girl in school, or an argument he had that morning, or trying to get some more cash to help May, etc.

Keaton made the same adjustment as did NPH. I'd say that's a definite must for the new player in the Spidey suit.

I don't know. I've always liked hearing and read his inner thoughts myself. But I do recall some people complaining that Peter never shuts up in the 90's series and to a lesser extent Spectacular Spider-Man. So I'm not sure it would gel well with the general audience.

I'd hate to hear people complain that Spidey talks to much, even though this is what they were asking for only to hate it later... Whom I kidding? This isn't the Webb series and it's Marvel, people will eat it right up!

I'm open to him having an inner monologue during fight scenes, but he shouldn't be thinking about completely unrelated things unless the villain he's against poses no threat what so ever. To have him thinking about what he's going to have for dinner in the middle of a fight would take all the danger out the situation, or make Spider-man seem completely unfocused.

I really like this idea, I hope it would translate well to the big screen! It's a huge element of TSSM that I love which I never thought they'd be able to do on screen.

It shouldn't be unrelated, I agree, but if it's something that is weighing heavily on his mind, it wouldn't be. His inner monologue is often used to great effect during fights and he's usually talking about the fight itself. Sometimes making comparisons to what's going on in his personal life. But I also think there's a point to where the danger factor comes in and they need to be careful because that is pretty important and you don't want to ruin that tension.

Right. In any fight that actually requires his attention and effort he shouldn't be thinking about things unrelated to the fight. He can say things like 'I need to take this fight somewhere more secluded' or 'that was too close'.
However, if he's in the process of webbing up a mugger or something and it requires little to no effort, then I'd be fine with him thinking about girls or money problems.
