Playstation Insomniac's Spider-Man 2

Can't believe it's tomorrow! Unlocks at midnight EST for me. Probably won't play till the morning, because midnight is too late for me to start a game because I'll never shut it haha, but I wake up at like 5 AM anyways.

About a year ago, I actually met Yuri Lowenthal at my local comic con and he told me that we are all gonna be blown away by this. Hard to believe we are at this point finally!
Man I wish I lived in the US, so I could attend a legit Comic Con and tell my idol how much their work means to me. Yuri Lowenthal seems like such a real bro

He was awesome! This year will be 8th time attending this con. Earlier this year, Sam Raimi was announced to attend. I had purchased a photo op and autograph, but sadly he had plans come up and had to cancel. I really hope they get him back for 2024 because the impact his Spidey films had on me as a 9 year old in 2002 changed my love for film. These conventions are just a great experience for things like that overall.

So help me god if the DLC involves
The Swarm...

I can't play it until I get a PS5 but I am watching people play the opening and that Sandman fight is just incredible. The amount of money and work that had to have gone into that must be insane.

Honestly felt a little too QuickTime-ish for me.

The graphics seem a bit of a step down as far as character design. They seem stiffer and not as fluid. And I’m not a fan of having the iron spider arms. But I’ve only just started and imagine the experience will improve once I get used to the controls again.

I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. The map is just so beefed up compared to the last game and the controls feel even smoother. I'm sticking to the story for now since it seems a little overwhelming to try to tackle side stuff with two Spider-Men right now but everything just feels like a natural progression from the first two games.

I've been diving into both the side missions and the main story. I'm having a blast. The game is terrific. I just unlocked the Raimi symbiote suit and have been rocking that. It looks terrific.

I have some minor complaints like how the focus energy bar doesn't let you replenish any of your health unless its completely full. I miss the little gadgets wheel too. A lot of the side missions feel like a rinse and repeat as the ones from the first game apart from Mysterio's.

Same. Miss the gadget wheel. There are almost too many gadgets!

It's been a lot of fun so far. The traversal has been improved further, and it was already the highlight of these games and is what I feel most fondly about. The city looks gorgeous, there are some potentially interesting plot threads (I'm still very early in the game). But it's not all roses so far. I think opening with the Sandman level was a mistake, Sandman himself looks significantly worse than the rest of this game and it's a poor showing for the opening sequence to lead with that imo. The facial animation is... not great. I think Insomniac has trouble with faces in all three of these games, but it feels more pronounced here to me. Maybe because of all the beauty in the scenery. There's also some carry overs from the last game that feel tedious, namely the walk and talks and the execution of the rooftop science puzzles. While I'm still early, two chunky missions so far have been walk and talks and, while I like the information I'm getting in them, the delivery leaves a lot to be desired and I think they could have figured out a stronger way to get across what they want/need to. I don't really have this problem with other Playstation exclusives usually, Naughty Dog games feature pretty significant walk and talk segments, but I think they handle them much better than Insomniac has across these.

Yeah I also miss the focus bar letting you replenish health little by little.

I've been doing some of the more relevant side missions like Wraith's side story for Peter and the Brooklyn Visions side missions for Miles, plus collecting the Sandman crystals as both. The game pushes you towards the story missions more than the last game. For example, a story mission unlocked while I was playing as Peter but I still wanted to do some side stuff as Miles because it had been a while since I played as him. I was able to complete one side mission as Miles before the game automatically switched over to Peter and started the story mission. Since I'm trying to wrap up the main story this weekend I'm fine with it but I would have been more annoyed had I been trying to tackle all the side stuff before moving ahead with the story.

I'm around 20 hours of play time. Did a mix of the main story, and side quests, and I actually ended up completing the main quest today. Man, it's just phenomenal. I can't think of another word to sum up this terrific and breathtaking experience. Finishing up side quests now. I'm doing some of the mysterio challenges currently. I also unlocked the Raimi suits today!

what do you think the dlc will have that will expand the game even further?!

I've got 10 more story missions to go. Might be able to push forward and finish it tonight. Without delving into spoilers, I really like what they've done with the symbiote storyline here.

Watching the Sandman boss fight again and I think he more or less looks okay except for the part when he gets to the beach and you're gliding across the river towards him. I didn't notice it as much when I was playing.

These are the Marvel blockbusters of Sony exclusives. Very fun, but with glaring issue that you'd wish they smooth out. While God of War is out here being Dune and Ratchet and Clank is Pixar.

What are the blue streaks and circles in the sky when you push down on R3? Are you supposed to follow them with your web wings?

Yeah, its a good game, no doubt. But there is a degree of lack of polish to the game that you cannot declare them the best developer out there. I mean, the shear fact that you have to wait for just new game plus is a huge knock against them.

Some of the bugs are hilarious, though.
