Playstation Insomniac's Spider-Man 2

I just finished it and got the platinum trophy too. Overall its a terrific game and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Its another love letter to Spidey fans like the first game is. I have some issues with it as I expect everyone does, I'll discuss them later when more people have finished the game and can give their 2 cents as well.

Make sure you all stick around for the after credits scene. Its a lovely little set up for the third game.

Awesome progress!

Great to hear and thanks for the heads up. Long may this series continue, and hopefully Wolverine is right up there too.

Yeah, its a good game, no doubt. But there is a degree of lack of polish to the game that you cannot declare them the best developer out there. I mean, the shear fact that you have to wait for just new game plus is a huge knock against them.

Some of the bugs are hilarious, though.
We had to wait for New Game+ for God of War: Ragnarok too. It's becoming more common with developers.

Spent the week traveling for work so enjoyed a lazy Saturday watching the main storyline on YouTube lol. 4 and a half hours later, I really really enjoyed it.

Not much of a gamer but man this series is one the greatest adaptations of Spidey lore ever, if not the best. The creators take a lot of liberties with certain characters/storylines but nothing, IMO, seemed too egregious or too far-removed from the original comics’ canon. So excited for Pt. III.

Arachnids, not bugs. :o

I beat the story. Still have plenty to do since I'm only at 60% completion but refraining from posting any spoilers I thought it was a great continuation of what the first game and MM set up. The sheer amount that happens in the story alone seems overwhelming and yet they managed to keep everything balanced between Peter and Miles as well as the rest of the major players.

Did you like the Doc Ock tease in the after credits? Looks like he's going to be back for the third game :otto:

Would that be mostly narrative or gameplay issues?

For sure. I'd be glad to see him back in 3 since we didn't get enough of him as a villain in the first game. After getting almost all of the most well-known Spidey villains in the first game and 2, I wouldn't mind if they scaled it back a bit and kept the main villains to Green Goblin and Ock, maybe Goblin II/Hobgoblin too. Carnage was teased but I feel like they're likelier to make him the villain in an upcoming DLC given how the Wraith story ended. That seemed more suited for DLC than a loose thread for the third game, at least to me.

Side note but since you Platinumed the game already....I had what I thought was one of the post credits spoiled for me on YouTube the other day but it turns out it was a cutscene that I think you get after finding all the Spider-Bots? (The ITSV reference)

A little of both.

I agree, I would be happier with a tighter villain roster in the third game so they can focus the narrative more on the big baddies. I think that's where Kraven fell a bit short for me in this one. He was a very one note villain. I don't like to compare but both Doc Ock and Martin Li felt more layered and fleshed out. Harry's Venom made up for Kraven's shortcomings for me though.

Yes that cut scene is for when you complete the Spider-Bots mission. Its really funny.

He wasn't as layered as Ock or Mr. Negative but I liked what they did with Kraven here, since all things considered with as much as his shadow looms over the story he's still just the secondary villain. There was a little bit of "Kraven's Last Hunt" thrown in and I also really liked him hunting Lizard factoring into the plot because that's something I've wanted to see in a Spider-Man movie since the Raimi days so I'll take what I can get. Kraven hunting Lizard just makes sense. Besides that I was actually shocked when he killed Scorpion and then later when it's revealed that he killed most of the other villains from the first game too. Although how much of a hunt could Vulture be as an old man in a bird suit battling cancer? Come on now, Kraven. :o

Finished everything 100%, and got the platinum trophy. Just an incredible experience all around and I couldn't be happier as a Spidey fan. Insomniac should be so proud of themselves and all of the hard work they've poured into this definitely shows. I'm sooo eager to see where this goes, especially after that ending(s).

Since Insomniac seems to like a lot of Slott's content, I can easily see 2 stories being used for 3.

DLC is most likely Carnage. Definitely see an Ends of the Earth for Otto and a bunch of Goblins showing up.

Overall another fantastic game. I was pleasantly surprised when the game kept going after Venom just straight out ate Kraven's head. I though we were due to a final boss fight there and then the game would end. Never expected them to go full out Knull/Klyntar symbiote invasion subplot, felt like the game turned into Web of Shadows suddenly..

Which is pretty much my only gripe with the game's narrative, I felt that we got a Venom in terms of look and feel but the story around him felt a bit off - I actually don't mind Harry being the host but there's a couple of personality quirks that were missing here for this Venom to feel like Venom (mainly the twisted humor, personal vendetta and toying with Peter). I'd probably like something a lot more personal and revenge-driven instead of "full-on megalomaniac conquer the Earth" Venom. I also felt his transition from Agent Venom and then suddenly getting mad at Peter with just one or two scenes could have been better established. Felt like he got the suit back and he went straight into beast mode without a steady sequence of events that pushed him more and more into feeling isolated and unwanted. For example, Norman's scene hugging Peter was a great scene in and of itself but the way that it appears there, it feels forced for dramatic purposes - we never get that strained relationship between Norman and Harry, for all we've been shown this Norman actually does love Harry and would move mountains to save him. Here it felt like the best hits from the movies and comics.

PS: Venom with red bat wings was weird as hell to me, doesn't feel like he needed that power-up and it further pushed him into a different character..

The red wings are straight from the comics. Albeit a rather new addition to the lore along side Knull.

Yeah, there's no doubt that the design itself is 100% something that the edgy comics would do with him in order to progress him and sell more toys/merch/comics but that's part of my point - this is the first rendition of this character in this world and, even tho its cool that they're pulling from all references (old and new), it feels as if this one just straight skipped years of his existence and went straight for a new version of the character without acknowledging Knull, Carnage, the Life Foundation and all the symbiote history we got.

I think it all comes down to a matter of preference. I loved how he looked, moved and talked, I just wanted him to be more classic and personal, playing mind games with Peter. The boss battle itself was fun and all the symbiote story with the black suit and how they incorporated Miles into it was pretty awesome.

I wish Sony wasn't so greedy with the movie and video game rights for Spider-Man, Insomniac Games could make more sales with their games on Xbox as well
Console exclusivity isn't really greed, it's pretty much been a thing for as long as video games have been around. If you really want to play Spider-Man when it comes out, you buy a PS5. Likewise, if you want to play Halo or Starfield, you buy an Xbox or if you want to play Zelda or Mario, buy a Switch.

You gotta remember, the only reason Insomniac games was able to make these games at all was because Sony gave them the rights. So it's not that unfair, that Sony is looking out for their own interest here. And even as an exclusive, with these sales, Insomniac will be more than fairly compensated.

So happy this game is doing gangbusters. This thing is fantastic so far. The storytelling, the gameplay, the cinematics and voice acting are all aces.

this has got to be hands down my favorite interpretation of Spider-man. And thats saying a LOT.

I'm annoyed that mere youtube thumbnails have spoiled for me some pretty rad imagery and plot points. But at least I don't know the context for them before I play the game
