Inspector Gadget & Johnny Test Land At Viper Comics

Viper Comics is thrilled to announce we've secured Inspector Gadget and (Cartoon Networks) Johnny Test license. Viper will be developing books based on both Inspector Gadget and Johnny Test and releasing them in 2011.

Jessie Garza with Viper states, “we're ecstatic to have been granted the opportunity to give both of these characters the comic treatment. These are two awesome properties to add to our line-up of recently acquired license (Odd Rods).”

Interesting. I used to love the INSPECTOR GADGET cartoon as a kid, and still own the now out of print SHOUT! Media box set of the first 26 episodes.

DiC has owned the rights to Inspector Gadget for a while. Quite a few companies have had the rights to the cartoons. DiC is now merged with COOKIE JAR ENT. now. It is interesting that Viper Comics wants to try to jump onto the 1980's nostalgia bandwagon, much as other material like G.I. JOE, TRANSFORMERS, and lessor selling stuff like DARKWING DUCK and THE MUPPET SHOW. These sort of things usually don't sell well, maybe in the Top 200.

If it is well written, I could be tempted to give it a try. There have been subsequent Gadget animation, such as "GADGET AND THE GADGETINI'S", but nothing seemed to be as good as the original.

What the hell is Johnny Test though?

It's this show about a kid (Johnny) who has twin older sisters who are inventors/generic scientists that use him as a guinea pig. His dog is able to speak due to their experiments also. It's a clever show, with a ton of odd references in it. Not a classic like Gadget is, but not a bad show by far.

I spy an Inspector Gadget comic on the list for Free Comic Book day this year. I assume this means that a series can't be far behind then?
