The recent /b/ Vs. Scientology internet "stuff", spilling into reality, got me thinking!

With all the serious problems in the world;

Iraq
Afghanistan
Slavery in Niger
The recent economic downturn
The African Aids pandemic
Civil rights in Islamic nations
Honour killings

et. etc.

I am interested in why Xenu and the apsotate Tom Cruise (5ft 9") are seen as enough of a problem in peoples lives, that, nerds everywhere have taken to the streets!

Why is this!

Just another Cult, like the moonies etc. Do I wish they didn't exist? Yes. Do they impact my life? No. Are they a serious real world isssue? Ask people who don't frequent message boards who Xenu is!

I think this war on Scientology is a bunch of nonsense. It's a waste of time to do what? To show Scientologists that they're wrong? I bet a couple thousand losers wearing masks and protesting in the streets are really going to make all those Scientologists question their faith and leave the church :whatever:

I agree, it's hilarious.

Well if they feel strongly enough about it, then who cares if they protest scientology? They're not exactly keeping anybody else from taking on the other issues

......who or what is a Xenu?
All know about Scientology is that Tom Cruise seems act like it's apostle.

That's why it's funny. That it has become that big an issue to them!

You're pathetic. How about Scientologies subversion of our legal systems, their brainwashing techniques, the crushing supression of anyone who gets in their way?

Oh I forgot to mention that I donate to cancer research to... and you're still being condecending, and ignorant.

I don't care if they protest it. I just find it perplexing that thousands of people are pissed off because a religious institution decides to believe in something and live their lives accordingly. I find it hilarious that people are so up in arms over it, too. Who cares if a group of people believe that an alien warlord gave birth to all of mankind? Who cares if their followers don't believe in medication or therapy? Seriously, it's mind boggling. I don't see how Scientology is any different than other questionable religions, like the Catholic Church or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Seriously, they all believe in some sort of far-fetched spookery, and the latter two organizations arguably have more clout in the real world than the Scientologists do.

No, the only reason why people are making such a huge fuss over this is because Tom Cruise has become a spokesperson for this church. That, and because oodles of fanboys are upset that his movie beat Batman Begins at the box office in 2005. Yeah, Scientologists are annoying. Yeah, their faith makes me roll over in hysterics sometimes. But really, to declare war on it... that's just silly, not to mention a gargantuan waste of time and effort.

 My opinion exactly!

Let's get one thing straight the the founder himself said.

"Scientology...is not a religion."
- L. Ron Hubbard, CREATION OF HUMAN ABILITY, 1954, p. 251

Lol, cult, religion, con.... semantics, as if it matters. Belief systems are belief systems. It's the opium for it's masses.

So what? I'm sure Jesus didn't want his name to be slathered across numerous denominations after his death.

Scientology has evolved into a religion, and so it will stay-- regardless of what its detractors think.

How about how they were responsible for the larget infiltration in US Government history. Their dangerous practices of brainwashing (using technqieus delevloped in Soviet Russia), their habit of claiming that all mediaction doesn't work (that goes for Anti Depressants and Seizure medication, folks). The people they have murdered. Their lawyers and members litterally doing everything they can to ruin people's lives.

Let's talk about Operation Freakout where they tried to drive a woman insane and make her kill herself, all becaue she wrote an honest account of her tiem with L Ron Hubbard.

How about the motto that is practiced by the OSA branch

"Government agnecies are to be brought under control to the ends of Sciebntology through high level infiltration and legal pressure, and when that fails, a low level means to overwhelm them"

Let's talk about the church policy on dealling with SPs

"Any non Scientologist may be lied to, sued, stolen from, or destroyed, with no reprisal from the church."

Let's talk abotu how the only way they even got religious sttus was by launching over 1000 lawsuits at the IRS after they were caught stealling government documents.

In modern society there is a huge legal difference bewteen being a religion and a cult, stop being so high and mighty and dismissively ignorant.

And the Catholics burned and executed Jews, homosexuals, non-believers, people who didn't pay their dues, people they believed were non-believers, people the believed were Jews, people they didn't like because they looked at members of the Church the wrong way, people who believed in science... this went on for a few centuries, I believe. They also started wars which toppled entire governments, allowing them to spread their influence throughout all of Europe. Somehow, I don't think Scientologists rank all that high on the "religious threat" list.

Also, yeah, they don't think medication works. There are loads of cynics out there who aren't Scientologists who think the same thing. Their lawyers manage to win their plaintiffs' cases, subsequently ruining the defendants' lives. Well, the defendants should have hired better lawyers, then. It's all a bunch of phony, exaggerated attacks which most of the internet community has used as a basis to attack an entire religion.

I find this whole thing amusing, because I bet by this time tomorrow, the whole world won't remember this little war.

Unfortunately, Scientology is a formally recognized religion by several governments, including the United States and the United Kingdom. So, technically, these people are attacking a religion, not a cult.

It will be remembered on the intrawebbe forever lulz 1011111.

Seriously, do you think most of the world even knows (or cares) it's happening now?

Besides from being mentioned occasionally on MSNBC or CNN, the entire world probably doesn't give one iota that this is going on. And as I can see from pictures of the crowds 'storming' Scientologists' 'bases of operation' all around the world, all it looks more like an opening of some sci-fi/ fantasy movie at Grauman's Chinese Theater than a revolution.

You can also get a lot of content fro Youtube about their disconnect policy, how they blackmail their own members with personal information gained through auditing (that they would promise to be confidential).

Scientology and Clearwater (or searching Clearwater in general) will lead to some interesting results about how they've taken over a small town.

Actually there are more governments moving to ban Scientology right now then those that consider it a legitimate religion.

There are countries which don't formally recognize Christianity, Judaism or Islam as a religion, but they are. The backlash against Scientology falls under the exact same circumstances: a few governments don't like the religion, and therefore it is no longer recognized by the state. Until no one country recognizes it as a religion, it will remain a religion.

I haven't seen any main stream news coverage in the U.K.

You can also find the actual court documents for operation snowwhite and there are countless testimonials (in fact there's an entire forum set up for Ex scientologists)

How about a testimony from the Niece of the current leader of Scientology? Or the fact that many of those youtube videos are actually recorded news broadcasts, or that Mark Bunker is a very credible person who has made documentaries prior to his focus on scientology.

I'm getting the feeling that none of this matters to you though, so much for being an educated human being eh? FOr a board scientists your not following through on investigating much.
