Iron Man 3 vs Man Of Steel

I think an important difference between MoS and IM3 will be that MoS is a legit superhero movie while IM3 is more of a Shane Black film.

The idea that there could never be a "legit Shane Black superhero movie" strikes me as resting on a false dichotomy.

I'm just saying it's more of a Shane Black film than a traditional superhero film. Obviously it's Iron Man and Marvel, so it's inherently a superhero film. But it subverts a lot of expectations and tropes and really doesn't sound like any superhero film I've ever watched.

For me, the thing that matters the most is which film is better in general. Just because the other one is closer to the comics, it doesn't mean as a film, its already better.

Isn't this what everyone always asks for? Something different, something that doesn't follow formula.

Then they get it and they ***** that it's too reminiscent of the director. Can. Not. Win.

Not directed at you, Dent. Just in general.

Actually, RDJ's return was with 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. And since that return he has appeared in some films ranging from fantastic (outside of Marvel) to good including: Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Tropic Thunder, The Soloist, Due Date and will be appearing in the upcoming film The Judge. He's a great actor that works with his characters and owns each role he's done since he came back. Even if he was (he wasn't, but just hypothetically) the 80's equivalent of Justin Bieber or whoever, the modern RDJ is a fantastic actor that's fun to see on screen every time.

50 Shades of Grey is porn. Call it erotica but it's porn.

to say Robert's comeback was not in iron man is like somebody saying mickey Rourke's comeback was not in the wrestler .

the only individual who had a comeback due to kiss kiss bang bang was Shane black not rdj where have you been ? .

it is a shame Hugh Laurie should have been Sherlock Holmes at least the audience would have understood him when he spoke i can't figure out how Robert won the globe over Joseph Gordon Levitt for 500 days of summer ?.

Justin Bieber is a train-wreck with drugs and booze was Robert any-better when he was his age ? did not think so

and 50 shades of grey is a series of erotic novel's it is not porn because the book's actually have a plot and i don''t know if anybody here has noticed but north american porn has no plot ?:BA so nice try

Okay, so what was KKBB then? RDJ's return to the screen in (in my opinion) one of the best comedies to date.

...wait. You couldn't understand RDJ in those movies? Really? I don't know what to say to that, I found him clear as crystal.

And I do agree that JGL in 500 Days was better if we're comparing to RDJ's Sherlock.

Wait, have I missed something? Justin Bieber's a train-wreck with drugs and booze? I mean, I know he's an awful singer and all but when'd he become a train-wreck with drugs and booze? And how did I miss this?

And whether or not RDJ was better or worse at that age, you have yet to make any convincing arguments regarding his modern career. Zodiac, Iron Man and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang are by far better than what Cavill's got under his belt so far (though Cavill's no slouch either and I'm loving what I've seen of him in MOS so far, hopefully his performance is fantastic).

The plot is as deep and interesting as the intro to porn. It's just there so the author can go and write sex scenes.

I agree, but for me, it might be sort of hard to compare them because they're almost diametrically different. It would be easier to compare the first Iron Man and Man of Steel, or even Iron Man 2, but with Iron Man 3, I feel like it's almost discussing whether The Avengers/Batman Begins or Lethal Weapon or Godfather is better. It feels odd to compare such different genres. Iron Man 3 is going to invite the comparisons because it's technically a "superhero" film, but at its heart it's completely different from your traditional superhero flick, and actually strives for that.

Given, if Man of Steel is horrible, it's horrible. But all things equal and both films turn out to be great in their own right, it's going to be very hard to straight up compare the two on the basis of them being superhero films.

I'm just speaking for myself though. Maybe I'm thinking too much. But I feel like I will have a very hard time coming to a conclusion on which is better. It all comes down to your preference of film genre, not just tone like we're used to in these comparisons.

Isn't this what everyone always asks for? Something different, something that doesn't follow formula.

Yeah, that's definitely what you see people lawd criticism over superhero films with, specifically critics. It seems like this route is working though judging from early RT aggregation.

I personally like the fact that Marvel is expanding on the superhero film and letting them be a breeding ground for every type of genre and directive style. It's the same thing James Bond has done for decades. It's the only way to keep these films fresh and last for a long time. Not to mention it just lends to more potential great films for these characters.

I hope MOS is as entertaining as IM3. think it will be. don't care about the box office money, only that future films are made. but so far IM3 - big tick

I would give it a rest if I were you.
I agree with snyderrocks on the principle of his argument though. There is a lot of revisionist history when it comes to RDJ and Iron Man the character itself.

Not that much. As I demonstrated RDJ had plenty of critical acclaim in his younger years.

Plus his attitude sucks.

For some reason, I'm thinking of the fat kid from the Tropic Thunder viral video who saw Iron Man three times.

"It'll do ... 'til Man of Steel comes out. Then you're screwed. Henry Cavill would kick your ass."

i agree with that .

how is this for convincing Robert's wife Susan got him the role as Sherlock Holmes because he had worked with guy richie before and he brought her with him to meet with the director about Robert possibly playing the title role .and Robert living the fast life got him the role as tony stark .

I'm referring to C. Lee (or whoever) saying KKBB was RDJ's comeback film. I don't agree with that. His comeback film was Iron Man. RDJ isn't the 50 million dollar man without Iron Man.

I'm gonna just say "goodbye" to you preemptively, because odds are you're gonna get banned while I'm asleep some night.

lol I didn't even realize I just delivered a combobreaker.

That would be me. From my perspective, KKBB was his comeback and Iron Man was the one that really sealed the deal that he was back.
