Iron Man Iron Man: Video Game *Update*

Just played 3 Missions on the PS2 and man... this game sucks. I don't know what the next-gen titles are like, but Iron Man on the PS2 plays like it's been nothing more than an afterthought. Which probably isn't far from the truth.

Let's start with the thing that you'll immediately notice, graphics. I'm not a graphics ****e, but I'm used to a certain standard. This game looks like the PS2 just came out yesterday and the people haven't gotten used to the code yet. I've seen PSP games with better graphics than this.

Gameplay is medicore at best. It's nice to fly with Iron Man around and blast opponents into oblivion, but ultimately it just isn't fun. When you kill an enemy they disappear into nothingness. No nice ragdoll physics or anything. Apparently Iron Man's repulsors are teleportation beams calibrated to send defeated enemies into the negative zone.

Then there are context sensitive moments where you've got to press the circle button. Like removing some C4 from a fuel pipe or something like that. Though once you press the button, Iron Man will stand still for like 2-3 seconds and do nothing. Same with ammo cashes. You press the button, and he'll just stand there for 2 seconds before he opens the box.

Iron Man himself doesn't play too shabby, but games like Zone of the Enders pulled a flying armored being with an arsenal of weapons of mass destruction clearly better off, than the people at Sega.

For my Iron Man fix, I'll stick with Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Unfortunately, since the 3rd parties like to port PS2 titles to Wii or vise versa, I doubt Wii version would be different or vastly improved over PS2 version. Sega as a developer has been slipping recently (as noted by their lackluster Sonic titles), and I'm not sure why Marvel would give them their licenses. Both Activision and Capcom can probably do better imho.

Well, PS2 version was bound to suck hard. Not surprising. Doesn't really speak for next-gen though. Like how SM3 was really different on PS2 and next-gen. PS2 can't do as much as next-gen, so it's handicapped.

I own the X360 version of the game

I love it, flyings fluid once you get the hang of it, the B button (otherwise known as the 'I Win' button to my friends and i) is awesome and i love that you can unlock the different suits

Plus this as well as the release of Ultimate Avengers on DVD just made my week!

Cool. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. And yeah, I think X-Box might have the better controls over PS3 because even in the demos those who had control problems seemed to have PS3 while those who didn't used X-Box.

Just a quick question, how easy or hard is it to grab a missile?

Grabbing missiles starts off as a bit hard but as soon as your used to the reaction it takes you'll be chucking them at A.I.M Gunships left and right

That's funny.
How free is the movement?

Complete freedom. You can move and fly around the entire stage. Plays similar to games such as Zone of the Enders and Budokai Tenkaichi.

Of course the PS2 can't do as much as next-gen consoles. But that doesn't mean that you don't have to bother with the current systems at all, just because you maybe can't incorporate 1 or 2 moves from the next-gen systems. This game really plays and feels like Sega used less than 50% of the PS2's potential.

There are tons of games out there showing just what the PS2 is really capable of. Sega barely scratched the surface.

No company looks highly upon PS2 anymore. Be thankful PS2 even got a game. Confused why it's not extinct any more. SM3 gave PS2 a practically completely different game that couldn't play at all. These games are made for next-gen, not PS2. The kinds of things net-gen does, you can't do on PS2. So the whole game is completely taken away from PS2 models from ALL COMPANIES and for MOST TO ALL NEXT-GEN GAMES that use PS2 because it's more or less a charity act.

If you don't want companies to look down on your console.

UPGRADE YOUR ARMOR. Gamers need to catch up to the times, not the companies need to slow down and not use the complete technology to cater to those who are choosing, for whatever reason, to remain old school. They're focus is not PS2, they're focus is next-gen. They're making next-gen game and should and do only take little time to make games for old consoles two years after the fact. Makes as much sense as expecting a PSP handheld game to be the same on a mobile console.

Think they should spend more time on Wii though. Don't own it, but can't see it as being that much less than ps and xb

Hear, hear.
The Wii is always getting screwed, by getting the stupid PS2 version of games.

I tried the demo again this morning, hoping to salvage something from it after the amazing experience I had last night called "Iron Man".

I still just don't know. If not for the repetition/lack of variety in combat (the very core of the game) and being constantly barraged with enemy firepower to the point of distraction, I might find the game worthy of my hard earned cash. I really want to love this game. Really.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), I assume this game will receive poor to mediocre reviews and will be getting price cuts in just a few months. Maybe I can justify spending 30 to 40 dollars on it. Maybe.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm off to buy the PS2 version right now. Even average Iron Man graphics are better then top line graphics of other characters to a fan.

Dang man... I was planning on buying the PS3 version tonight but after reading all the crappy reviews I'm not sure anymore. But then again I read crappy reviews of the action figures too and then bought the unmasked Iron Man/Tony Stark figure and think its actually quite nice!

I have the 360 version and it's great imo. Once you get the hang of the controls it's really enjoyable! The graphics are nowhere near as bad as the PS2/Wii version!

My game came in a cool steelbook case too, which looks great! For anyone in Ireland, I got the game in Game.

The game is IMPOSSIBLE once you get to level 4 and the fighter jets come in!! Very annoying!

Seeing as how I can't be bothered reading the reviews...How good's the PS2 & PSP version?

How far are you into? Are you enjoying it? I might end up not getting this and go on the hunt for GTA 4.

just got my copy cant wait to play it cant right now though cuz my bro is playing it.

I'm on the 4th level where you have to stop the missile launches. You get bombarded by fighter jet missile fire. I just ahve to get used to using the melee attack at the right time and catching and throwing missiles back at enemies.

I am enjoying the game though, it's fun flying around as Iron Man. The game's nothing ground-breaking but is enjoyable nonetheless.

I'm getting GTA4 for my birthday in the middle of May.

Well you have torn me. I have no idea what I will do today. I'm sure it is much easier finding the game then GTA 4. I have a decision to make.

Yeah, I'm really thankful for a game that looks like people confused the PS2 with a PS1.

Confused why it's not extinct any more. SM3 gave PS2 a practically completely different game that couldn't play at all. These games are made for next-gen, not PS2. The kinds of things net-gen does, you can't do on PS2.

Which mainly are graphics and tons of objects in the stage. Otherwise I haven't really seen anything the PS2 wouldn't have been able to pull off. Games like MGS2&3, Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner and God of War II are living proof of that. Heck, In Z.O.E. I've destroyed like 5 starship battle cruisers with a giant Mecha armed to the teeth and took a couple hundred other flying Mechas out while I was at it.

The focus when making next-gen games specifically is just that. There is little focus on PS2 because they are spending more time with the better consoles. If you don't like that, upgrade. No one's stopping you from getting out of the stone age dude. So the PS2 "crappy" versions a la SM3 and others is because they're more or less charity offers for those who fo r whatever reason refuse to get with the program. I'd personally be happy there is one.

Well, there is this one guy called "price".

The system's have dramatically dropped in price if I remember correctly. And that was more in response to "if you're going to b and moan, why don't u just upgrade be done with it?"

HEY GUYS, I JUST PICKED UP THE GAME FOR MY PS3,:D:up: I'LL BE PLAYING IT LATER TONIGHT, THEN I'LL BE BACK AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK!!! THE MOVIE ROCKED, HARD, I KNOW THE GAME WON'T BE ANYTHING GROUND BREAKING BUT I ENJOYED THE DEMO AND WAS ABLE TO GET USED TO THE FLYING CONTROLS VERY EASILY!!!:o:oldrazz: PLUS I FIGURE ONCE YOU START UPGRADING YOUR SUIT AND GETTING NEW SUITS AND UPGRADING THOSE, THE GAME WILL OPEN UP A BIT MORE AND BECOME MORE ENJOYABLE IN THE PROSES!!! THE GRAPHICS LOOK NICE AND IT'LL BE FUN TO PLAY IT AFTER SUCH AN AWESOME MOVIE, HAPPY GAMING GUYS!!!:D:up:
