Which film do you think was better? Both being marvel character origin stories.

-edit-there is some confusion I am refering to Spiderman 1. As per my post.

Spider-man!! :spidey:

Iron man is just okay. Nothing that special to be honest.

Iron Man was fantastic but I vote Spider-Man. It's difficult to put across all these years later just how special finally seeing Spidey up on the big screen really was... Like some kind of wonderful waking dream.

I really can't choose...i loved both, and its because they both actually felt like a comic book movie

Both were great, but Spidey for me. It managed to have almost everything you really want out of a comic movie.

Iron Man all the way. Spidey was ok for it's time(I still was never crazy about it) but it just doesn't hold up the way Iron Man does.

Iron Man. Unless they do a retcon in IM2 and say Whiplash was the guy who shot Uncle Ben blew up Tony's armored transport.

Man this was tough, but I have to go with my fav Spider-Man. BUT Iron Man was awesome! Two very good movies that happened to be Super hero movies.

Iron Man for me. Spider-Man was amazing but Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark is just brilliant.

Hell, Jeff Bridges alone was enough reason for me. to be honest. :oldrazz:

Bridges owns any role he does. Guy's a living legend.

"Tony Stark built this in a CAVE! With a box of SCRAPS! Man..."

"Tony Stark is not the issue here, Dude"

"Who's Tony Stark Dude?"

"Shut the **** up Donny you're out of your element"

"Well, hey, that's like your opinion, Iron Man". :hehe:

are we talking spider-man 1 or SM2?
if its spider-man one then maybe IM takes it but if we're talking spider-man 2 then no chance (imho) that movie blew me away, I saw it five times at the cinema.

Iron Man. No doubt.

Spiderman was too childish and predictable. Not that Iron Man was an example of adult and innovation, but it worked so much better. If you want a better explanation: Robert Downey Jr.

And Spiderman had so-so CGI. Yes.

Ironman for me. Simply because I prefer Tony Stark over the unfunny and awkward acting Peter Parker.

spider man because J. Jonah Jameson was perfectally portrayed!

Even when J.K. Simmons' portrayal is excellent, it's a shame that in three movies they haven't done anything different than limiting Jameson to be a comedic relief. Not that he's not in the comics, but he's so much more. In the movies, he's a like in the 1967 cartoons: he hates Spiderman just because it is fun to see him hating Spidey. In the comics, he has a deep conflict going on as to why he hates him so much. By Spiderman 3 it was clear to me that the joke was wearing thin.

if were talking SM2, I absolutely LOVED how they showed peter parker's life going down the toliet, giving up his alter ego so he could have a life and seeing the city suffer as a result making him his up the things that meant most to help to take up the mantle of the hero again. ****ing BRILLIANT!!

my teeny tiny critisism about SM2 is making him end up with MJ because he is no longer scarificing anything to be the hero. for me SM2 is the second greatest superhero movie I have ever seen (I think its pretty obvious which is my favorite superhero movie of all time is).

Spiderman 2 is another story.

But the thread opener said "Both being marvel character origin stories," which makes me think we're talking about Spiderman 1.

Spider-Man 2 isn't an origin story, therefore, it isn't in discussion.

Iron Man didn't really do anything new, it was pretty formulaic. But the characters made the film great. And people say it wasn't that deep, that it was just a pop corn flick. I disagree to an extent. I mean there wasn't much action in it and THE best scene in the movie is one that doesn't involve the armour at all. I'm talking about the scene where Pepper threatens to quit. You guys know what I mean.

Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Tony, you know that I would help you with anything, but I cannot help you if you're going to start all this again.
Tony Stark: There is nothing except this. There's no art opening, no charity, nothing to sign. There's the next mission, and nothing else.
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Is that so? Well, then I quit.
Tony Stark: You stood by my side all these years while I reaped the benefits of destruction. Now that I'm trying to protect the people I've put in harm's way, you're going to walk out?
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: You're going to kill yourself, Tony. I'm not going to be a part of it.
Tony Stark: I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right.

When Spider-man first came out, it revolutionized comic book movies. The visuals of a kid swinging around new york. The hardships of trying to do all the things normal kids do and be a superhero. It didn't make the movie about a bad guy, but mainly a love story. And, it had the first comic book movie ending twist, where the hero chooses not to do what he's wanted all along, because she would be in harms way.

When Iron Man came out it didn't revolutionize anything, but it was essential because the Dark Knight came out the same year. I truly believe that if Iron Man didn't come out the same year as the Dark Knight, that every comic book movie would try and have the same tone as the Dark Knight. Iron Man balanced that tone, in showing that light hearted, yet very seriously treated movies, can be a financial and critical success as well.

Spider-man probably deserves the vote, but I like Iron Man better, personally.

Let's take a closer look:
Action: Spider-man
Characters: Iron Man
Villain: Iron Man
Story: Spider-man
Humor: Iron Man
Love Interest: Iron Man
Visual Effects: Iron Man
Hero: TIE
Ending: TIE
Origin: TIE
Beginning: TIE

IDK it's hard. Both movies did a great job on focusing on the Hero, and giving them a great character arc. Tony starts off a selfish pimp, and turns into a selfless hero. Peter starts off a normal kid who only wants the woman he loves, and selflessly gives her up because of that love. Both great stories!
