Jon just said that they've hired casting directors and that they are discussing the characters with them right now.

Once again, Oded Fehr has an Israeli accent. He's never shown an ability to sound American, and it would stand to reason that if he could he'd have employed that ability before now. In addition to that, he's sort of bigger than you need an actor to be for Tony Stark.

How big do you want Stark to be? Fehr's 6' 2" and that's only an inch taller than Stark.

How reliable is Wikipedia? Its saying Christain Kane is rumored to be up for this role. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man_%28film%29

Yes I know Jon Favreau said no casting yet, and they just got casting directors a few days ago, but still are Favreau and Kane buds or something?

and has any seen Kanes acting chops? would he make a good Stark?

Favreau responded to Kane's Wikipedia entry about having met him. He was asked about it not to long ago in his group. It's all false.

Jon Favreau said:
First of all, I have no idea who Christian Kane is.

Tony Stark will most likely not be "unknown." He will most likely be an actor who we hire because of the merits of his ability and body of work and not his marquee value. When you work for a studio they have lists of names of stars that they feel can open a movie. We have no such list. On Iron Man, casting is purely a function of who is best for the role. It might be a star, it might be an unknown. We will do a search, but my guess is the role will end up going to someone with experience. There are many great actors out there who have been in movies but who are not considered bankable stars. It is great to have the freedom to go in any of these directions.

I hope this clarifies everything.

So, I started watching the TV show "The 4400" on DVD...and there's this character on there who's a rich buisnessman. The dude practically IS Tony Stark. And BOY does he look like him, too!

His name's Bill Campbell.

Now tell me that dude doesn't look like Mr. Stark. Especially seeing him play his character on The 4400. He just screams to me as the person to play this role.

...if he's been suggested already, I apologize. I'm too lazy to look through 42 pages to make sure.

That would be the same Bill Campbell who was the Rocketeer in 1991, which was a good movie BTW and one that Fav said he was watching to prepare for Iron Man. Bill's almost 50 so I'm skeptical.

Okay, well as it's looking like my number one choice for Stark (Cruise) is looking less and less likely, I'm going to have to find a back-up. My current thinking is Ethan Hawke.
Now, Hawke is a good a good actor..I think he proved that in Training Day. My main issue with him is that I worry he may not have enough 'screen presence'.

He does, check him out in Assault on Precinct 13 and Lord of War ; he's now looking emaciated and quite the hard-ass.
But is that what we need for Stark ? Probably not.

My choice a while back would have been Liev Schreiber, but now I don't really know...

The one and only answer is ...

GHOSTFACE KILLAH from Wu-Tang ... He is known as Tony Starks anyway haha.

Jokes aside ... I would say mark ruffalo, edward norton, brad pitt(prefer him to be captain america), colin farrell wouldnt be bad, eric bana ?

I think we get your point about Caviezel. He'd be good but would've been better as far as sequels go if he was stiil as old as he was when he made Frequency.

Well thus far the most successful comic hero franchises have come in 3's,so I don't see much of a problem.

johnny depp is a brilliant actor and could pull off any character he chooses.

depp would be ideal. he's a chameleon. he can play any role. i'd love to see him as tony stark, but he's got a franchise already and i really think he'd only do it if tim burton was directing.

No Depp, I don't know what everyone sees in that guy.

I know I have heard people say his name before, but I think Oded Fehr would be a good choice. I saw 5 minutes of Deuce Bigalow 2 yesterdfay, and the only reason I didn't want those 5 minutes back was because he was in it with a good look for Stark IMO.

Johnny Depp just wouldn't do it. He had never even played the same character in more than one movie before the $hit that was the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. A franchise which he say's he did for his kids. Iron Man won't really be the right thing for his kids until they're a bit older.

and yet again, ODED FEHR CAN'T SOUND AMERICAN
