Is America a christian nation?

Pretty sure they do. In Corinthians its also required for women to stay silent in the church, do not speak in the church, be in full submission to their man, if they want to learn, learn at home from their husbands, dress "modestly" (think Islamic women), etc.

Leviticus says not to eat shellfish, among other things. 'Nuff said.

they do? o rly now?

yup, unless you're currently burning oxen to please God's nostrils.
( he used to be big into charred flesh, but not so now, weird ,must be like those years I owned KISS albums:huh:)

It's been documented that the founding fathers were not Christians, they were Theists. They set this country up to be a place where you were free to worship any religion that made you happy. (You'll remember from history class, religion was a big reason for people coming here in the first place.) So, to stand now and say, "America is a Christian nation, founded on Christian principles," is wrong. However, I will conceed that the majority of the people in American who practice religion, are mostly some denomination of Christian. This however does not mean this county should base it's legislation on any one faith's doctrine. Remember, everyone in this country has freedom of religion, and if Christians get to make Christian laws (i.e. Make gay marriage illegal.), than Radical Muslims get to make Radical Muslim laws (i.e. Make it legal to kill those of other faiths.).

Keep in mind, it's only the radical Muslims that want to kill you for worshiping God differently, the majority of them, don't care who you worship.

Thank you for correcting me. It is indeed a constitutional republic. While it incorporates many elements of a representative democracy, it's much more complex than that type of government.

No problem. I didn't know this myself for the longest.

In a sense America is a Christian Nation, but America is also a multi-religious country so we should look to what religiously dominates our country to determine if we are or aren't a Christian Nation.

How do you define "what religion dominates our country?

If you define that by the number of people who call themselves Christians then its a Christian country.

If you define it by what is the moral and ethical teachings and practices of America then its Culturalism, Commericialism, and Capitalism, etc. (or in other words, in my opinion its an Amoral society. The religious community in America has a sabbath day complex. It very religious on the day of its most holiest day - Friday for Muslims, Saturday for Jews, and Sunday for Christians; but the other days of the week its back to its secular lifestyle and pursuits only to ask G-d for their forgiveness when its time to go back and pray.

Hypocrisy: America at its fineness. The whole world knows this.

No, not at all.

That's like saying if a Republican president wins the majority of votes, America is a Republican Nation.

This is really amusing, also scary, how the majority Christians want it to be a Christian Nation so much that they won't even use common sense.

If...I can't believe I'd even have to explain this...If the government made Christianity the official religion, we'd be a Christian nation.
If we all happened to be Christians, we'd be a Christian nation.

Having a nation where all religions are represented, but most of them are Christians, doesn't mean it's a Christian nation.

It means, what you said, it's a nation of religious freedom, where all religions are represented, and where the government is FORBIDDEN to establish an official state religion.

If America is a Christian Nation, then you're saying I'm not an American, and I'm as American as George Washington, or you, if you were born in America.

This is disturbing and weird.
America is not a Christian Nation. It's a nation where all are free to believe in any religion. That's what it is. It's not a matter of opinion.
All of you that voted "yes" are wrong, and living in some totalitarian fantasy realm.

If there are more females than males in America, is America a Female Nation?

Very good points.

Also if the Government was to officially declare America a Christian country, at that point, America would no longer exist.

If you asked me this 20 years ago I would have said yes, but now, no.

Why is this thread still going, all it requires to answer is a lil common sense.

Really don't call America a Christian Nation b/c of how multi-religiously based we are. What I'm saying is that Christianity is one of the dominate religions in our country.

I wish that we could say America is a Christian Nation, but we are really far beyond that.

christianity may be the religion of choice for a majority of american citizens, but that doesn't mean that the founding fathers intended this nation to be a christian one.

The fact that the Constitution forbids religious oaths as a factor in taking office in the legislative, executive, and/or judicial branches, the fact that Jefferson's views of the First Amendment regarding religion "a wall of separation between church and state" have been used by the Supreme Court in several cases shows that this nation was never meant to be partial to any single religion.

That reminds me of how women act where i live.America's core may be Christian, but on the east and west coast (mostly California) there are other faiths.

Those on the edges tend to lead less sheltered lives.
